Storms, hail and a brief cooldown: Romania's two-week weather outlook sees heat returning to 36°C
The National Meteorological Administration warns of unstable weather with heavy rain, hail and gusty winds across much of the country, followed by a sharp temperature drop midweek and a return to 36°C heat in the south.
Unstable start to the week
Monday 6 July brings a sharp turn to unsettled conditions across Romania. The National Meteorological Administration (ANM) forecasts showers, lightning, and wind gusts of 40–60 km/h, with isolated hail and squalls. The worst of the instability is concentrated in Banat, Crișana, Maramureș and most of Transilvania, while Muntenia sees local storms and other regions only scattered activity. Rainfall totals of 10–15 litres per square metre are expected in short bursts, with isolated accumulations exceeding 20–30 l/m². Maximum temperatures range from 24°C to 32°C, and overnight lows dip to 9°C in eastern Transylvania while holding at 22°C on the coast.
Midweek cooling
A temporary cooldown arrives around 9 July. In Banat the average maximum drops to 28°C, in Crișana to 25°C, and in Transilvania to just 22°C. Minimum temperatures also fall, reaching 10°C in Transylvania and 12–13°C in the western regions by 10–11 July. The cooler air does not end the rain risk; showers and thunderstorms continue on Tuesday and Wednesday, with mountain gusts reaching 70–90 km/h. By Wednesday instability intensifies further, with rainfall locally hitting 15–20 l/m² and isolated spots recording 30–40 l/m².
Heat builds again
From 14 July the heat returns. Banat sees average maximums climb to 34°C, a level that holds through the end of the forecast period on 19 July. Crișana reaches 32°C, Transilvania 29°C, and southern Romania pushes as high as 36°C. Night-time lows also recover, settling around 17°C in the west. The second week is not dry: rain probability rises again between 13 and 19 July, keeping the pattern of warm, occasionally stormy summer weather in place.
- Unstable weather begins: storms, hail, and heavy rain in west and centre; max 24–32°C.
- Temporary cooling: maximums drop to 22°C in Transylvania, 25°C in Crișana, 28°C in Banat.
- Heat rebuilds: Banat reaches 34°C, south hits 36°C; rain probability increases again.
- End of forecast period: warm conditions persist, continued risk of showers and thunderstorms.
Capital outlook
Bucharest stays warm throughout. Monday reaches 31°C with possible light afternoon showers of 1–3 l/m². Tuesday sees 30–32°C and more isolated evening rain. Wednesday turns more unstable, with thunderstorms and wind gusts of 40–50 km/h. Minimums in the city hold between 15°C and 18°C.
