Two Romanian F-16 fighter jets and a military helicopter scrambled on Monday morning after radar detected intermittent signals over Moldova and Galați County, prompting a regional civilian alert.

On Monday morning, 24 August 2026, at approximately 06:00, the radar surveillance system of the Romanian Ministry of National Defence detected intermittent aerial signals operating within the airspace of the Republic of Moldova. The radar contacts were initially tracked over the Cahul district before one of the intermittent signals moved westward and appeared over Romanian territory in the vicinity of Târgu Bujor, located in Galați County. In response to the unidentified aerial tracking, the Romanian military command activated rapid air policing measures to inspect the eastern border zone and identify potential risks. Two Romanian Air Force F-16 Fighting Falcon fighter aircraft deployed from the 86th Air Base in Borcea to carry out surveillance patrols over the sector. An IAR-330 SOCAT military helicopter was also scrambled from the ground into the area to conduct low-altitude monitoring and assist in locating any potential aerial threats.
In the morning of Monday, 24 August, around 6.00, the radar surveillance system of the MApN detected intermittent signals, in the airspace of the Republic of Moldova, Cahul area. One of the signals subsequently appeared in the Tg Bujor area, Galați county.

Upon tracking the target, the National Military Command Centre nucleus notified the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations to trigger public warning protocols for border communities. Emergency services issued a RO-Alert notification to residents across Galați County and neighbouring Tulcea County at 06:12. The text warned the civilian population about the potential hazard of falling objects from the airspace and instructed residents to seek protection inside designated civil shelters or residential basements. Authorities advised citizens in the designated areas to stay calm, avoid approaching any debris or fallen equipment discovered on the ground, and follow guidance distributed by civil protection personnel.
