Romania turns cooler until early November, with rain first in the south-east
Temperatures stay slightly below seasonal normals across most of Romania until early November, according to the National Meteorological Administration's forecast for 12 October to 9 November. Rainfall is expected to exceed normal only in the south-east during the first week.
Four-week outlook
The National Meteorological Administration (ANM) published its forecast for 12 October to 9 November 2026 on Monday, 12 October, and updated it on Tuesday, 13 October. Temperatures are expected to stay slightly below the normal levels for this time of year across most of the country until early November, after which they will move closer to normal. In the week of 12-19 October, rainfall is forecast to be in surplus in the south-east half of the country and in deficit elsewhere. In the three weeks that follow, rainfall amounts are expected to be close to normal in most of the country.

Two-week regional outlook
The forecast issued on Monday, 12 October, for 12 to 25 October describes falling temperatures in every region at the start of the period. In Banat, the regional average of daily maxima is set to drop from 19 degrees to between 16 and 17 degrees, and the average of minima from 9 degrees to between 4 and 5 degrees. In Transilvania, the average daytime value falls from 16 degrees to 13 degrees, while night values drop from between 10 and 11 degrees to 2 degrees before the maxima settle around 14 degrees. Rain is expected to remain likely across almost the whole of Transilvania and Maramures for the entire period, with isolated heavier amounts possible. In Crisana, short spells of light showers are forecast in the first week, with a trend towards rising temperatures around 22 October.
Conditions on Tuesday and the days ahead
On Tuesday, 13 October, daytime maxima are forecast at 11 to 12 degrees in depressions and in Oltenia, and up to 17 to 18 degrees in Banat, Crisana and Maramures. Dobrogea is expected to receive 20 litres of water per square metre, and Bucharest is forecast a maximum of 16 degrees and a minimum of 7 degrees, with a few drops of rain and persistent cloud cover overnight. In the mountains, precipitation falls as rain at low altitudes and as sleet and snow at high altitudes, with gusts of 80 km/h in the high areas. ANM said temperatures would begin to rise from 18 October in some areas, although rain would continue, mainly in the east of the country.
Severe weather warning
ANM issued a general severe-weather warning on Monday, 12 October, citing low temperatures, rain of up to 40 litres per square metre and snow in mountain areas. Meteorologists said significant rain would fall over half of the country. A code yellow warning for significant rainfall covers Bucharest and 11 counties and takes effect at 10:00 on 12 October, remaining valid until 10:00 on Tuesday, 13 October 2026.
- Code yellow warning for significant rainfall takes effect for Bucharest and 11 counties
- Warning is scheduled to expire
Later weeks
For 19 to 26 October, the forecast puts mean temperatures slightly below normal across the whole country, with precipitation around normal levels. For 26 October to 2 November, average air temperatures are again forecast slightly below normal in all regions, with rainfall close to normal across the territory. From 2 to 9 November, both temperatures and precipitation are expected to be close to the normal values for that week in most of the country. The forecast therefore describes a cool spell that eases gradually, rather than a sharp drop followed by a sustained cold period.
