One dead, several hurt after Goliath roller coaster incident at Six Flags Over Georgia
Police in Cobb County said one person died and several others were injured on the Goliath roller coaster at Six Flags Over Georgia on Monday, 12 October 2026. Unconfirmed reports say a person fell from the ride, and officials have not said what caused the incident.
What happened
Police in Cobb County said one person died and several others were injured on Monday, 12 October 2026, at Six Flags Over Georgia, an amusement park about 15 miles (25km) northwest of Atlanta. La Repubblica reported that the incident happened around 16:00 local time. Officials have not said how the person died or what caused the others to be injured. Aerial footage from news helicopters showed the Goliath roller coaster stuck on the railway, with riders being helped off by workers. Videos posted online showed passengers being evacuated from the ride.
The ride and unconfirmed reports
The Goliath coaster was introduced at the park in 2006, and according to The Guardian it has a top speed of 70mph (110km/h) and a 175ft drop. The Dutch outlet AD described the attraction as 60 metres high. Several outlets reported that a person had fallen from the ride, citing eyewitnesses and anonymous local officials, but officials have not confirmed this. AD, citing American media, reported that a man fell from the attraction and struck other riders on the way down. AD also reported that all riders were evacuated and the park was closed.
Park response and investigation
A Six Flags spokesperson said the park and local authorities responded immediately and that the company is fully cooperating with investigators.
We are deeply saddened by the guest incident at our park today.
Detectives from the serious crimes unit of the Cobb County police will investigate the circumstances of the incident. The Cobb County Police Department did not specify which ride was involved in its initial statements.
Earlier lawsuits over Six Flags coasters
In late September 2026, Six Flags Magic Mountain in southern California announced it was retiring its X2 roller coaster amid lawsuits alleging serious brain injury caused by the ride. Six Flags has settled a wrongful-death lawsuit from the family of a 22-year-old man who died after riding the coaster in 2022. Three more lawsuits alleging traumatic brain injuries were filed in the week of 5 October 2026. These cases concern the X2 at a different park, not the Goliath coaster involved in Monday's incident.
