Rams defeat Giants 28-6 as Jaxson Dart suffers knee injury and Matthew Stafford throws four touchdowns
The Los Angeles Rams beat the New York Giants 28-6 at SoFi Stadium on Monday night, capitalizing on an early left knee injury to starting quarterback Jaxson Dart and 327 passing yards from Matthew Stafford.
Early injury halts Giants opening drive
The New York Giants saw starting quarterback Jaxson Dart leave their Week 2 matchup against the Los Angeles Rams after seven offensive plays. With 11:20 remaining in the first quarter at SoFi Stadium, Dart attempted a third-and-eight pass to tight end Theo Johnson. Rams defenders Byron Young and Josaiah Stewart converged on Dart, with Young striking his upper body while Stewart's thigh collided with the outside of Dart's left knee. Dart grabbed his knee on the turf as players took a knee before he walked to the sideline medical tent and locker room under his own power. The 23-year-old quarterback entered the contest following a 28-20 opening-week victory against the Dallas Cowboys.

Backup quarterback struggles and offensive stalls
Dart completed three of five passes for 20 yards before exiting, later undergoing stadium X-rays and returning to the sideline in sweats with an earpiece in the third quarter. Veteran backup Jameis Winston replaced Dart at 9:51 in the first quarter, completing 11 of 27 passes for 111 yards, zero touchdowns, and one interception caught by Trent McDuffie at the goal line. Wide receiver Malik Nabers briefly exited with a shoulder injury before returning, finishing with one catch for one yard on four targets. Dominic Zvada accounted for all New York points with two field goals as the offense managed 182 total yards. Outside linebacker Brian Burns suffered a low ankle sprain late in the fourth quarter, declining a cart ride to limp toward the locker room tunnel.
This was a test for everybody, obviously coming off a huge win with Dallas. A little piece of humble pie. Just the way the game went, nobody should be happy about how it played out. But all in all, this is not going to define us. We've just got to get back to work, get back in the win column and that's something I feel like we're going to do.
Stafford and Adams lead Rams offensive surge
The Rams established command behind quarterback Matthew Stafford, who threw for 327 yards and four touchdowns, recording a scoring pass in each quarter. Stafford reached 426 career passing touchdowns, moving past Philip Rivers for sixth place on the NFL all-time list. Wide receiver Davante Adams secured eight catches for 195 receiving yards and two touchdowns, including a 31-yard scoring catch and a 64-yard reception. Kyren Williams and Theo Ferguson caught Stafford's remaining two touchdown passes as the Rams offense generated 481 total yards. The performance marked Adams' highest single-game receiving yardage total with the Rams and the fourth-highest mark across his 13-year career.

Donald returns as evaluation continues on Dart
Defensive lineman Aaron Donald made three tackles in his return to competitive action after 32 months of retirement. Los Angeles rebounded from an opening-week defeat against the San Francisco 49ers in Australia, earning the win despite missing injured starters Puka Nacua and Myles Garrett. For New York, head coach John Harbaugh confirmed on Tuesday that medical personnel are continuing to evaluate Dart's knee injury, initially reported as a sprained medial collateral ligament. The Giants prepare for upcoming home games against Tennessee and Arizona followed by a road contest at Washington.
It's an ongoing conversation about the health of a player, of a person. We've got to prepare for the range of possibilities.
