Putin says Russia awaits US negotiators Witkoff and Kushner to restart Ukraine talks once Iran conflict cools
Vladimir Putin said Russia is ready to continue Ukraine discussions and expects US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner to travel to Moscow once Washington is less focused on the conflict with Iran.
Putin's remarks
The Russian president made the comments in an interview with state television on Sunday. He said the Kremlin is prepared to resume discussions on ending the war in Ukraine and named the two American officials he expects to take part.
We are waiting, once all the events are over, the hot phase on the Iranian file completed, for the arrival of these representatives of the American administration.
The Iran linkage
Putin explicitly tied the timing of renewed diplomacy to the state of US-Iran tensions. He said that Washington is currently preoccupied with the Tehran conflict and that Moscow is waiting for the "hot phase" on that front to end before the US negotiators visit.
The negotiators named
Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner were the only US officials Putin mentioned by name as the expected interlocutors. Both are known for roles in the previous administration and have been involved in informal diplomatic channels. No date has been set for their potential Moscow trip.
Next steps
The statement signals conditional readiness from Moscow but offers no timetable. The US has not yet publicly responded to the remarks, and the Iran situation remains fluid.
