Armed clash in Puertollano
The Spanish National Police arrested a repeat offender in Jerez de la Frontera, Cadiz, on charges of attempted homicide with a firearm following a violent dispute between family clans in Puertollano, Ciudad Real. The confrontation took place in early September 2026 in one of the municipality's conflict-prone neighborhoods, where longstanding rivalries between two resident families escalated into an exchange of live gunfire. During the dispute, multiple shots were discharged in the street, directly striking the head of one of the rival clans in the abdomen. The wounded clan leader was rushed to the Santa Barbara Hospital in Puertollano in critical condition, suffering from heavy bleeding and severe tissue damage.
Medical evacuation and intensive care
Upon arriving at the Santa Barbara Hospital, doctors evaluated the internal injuries and acute hemorrhaging caused by the projectile. Because of the complex positioning of the bullet inside the abdomen and the severity of the trauma, medical teams ordered an emergency transfer to the hospital in Toledo. The victim remained admitted to the intensive care unit in Toledo for several weeks, undergoing continuous medical treatment that ultimately saved his life. While the victim was hospitalized, investigators from the National Police and technical officers from the Scientific Police Brigade conducted forensic examinations at the shooting location in Puertollano. The scientific inspection established that the main shooter used a 9 mm caliber pistol, which was not recovered at the scene during the initial inquiry.
Investigation and tracking across provinces
Investigators established that the primary individuals involved in the confrontation left Puertollano immediately after the gunfire to avoid detection and subsequent arrest by law enforcement. The Judicial Police launched a tracking operation that traced several participants to the provincial capital of Ciudad Real, while identifying the primary gunman in hiding in Jerez de la Frontera, Cadiz. Law enforcement subsequently organized a coordinated operation that executed four separate entry and search warrants across the two municipalities. Three searches took place at properties in Ciudad Real, where officers confiscated 39 cartridges alongside a 9 mm Short caliber pistol connected to the armed altercation.

Tactical raid and detention in Cadiz
The final search warrant was executed in Jerez de la Frontera by tactical officers from the Special Operations Group, known as the GEO. Tactical teams entered the property and apprehended the suspect inside the building before he could relocate. Inside the residence, officers discovered and seized a concealed package containing more than 36,500 euros in cash, which investigators concluded had been assembled to fund his continued flight from authorities. The arrested suspect possesses an extensive criminal record for prior offenses, including membership in a criminal organization, illicit drug trafficking, and riotous affray.
