Luis Enrique's daughter Sira Martínez unhurt as passenger in fatal Spanish motorcycle crash
Sira Martínez, daughter of Paris Saint-Germain coach Luis Enrique, was a passenger in a car that collided with a motorcycle near Oliva on Thursday evening. The motorcyclist died at the scene, and the Guardia Civil is investigating the collision.
The collision
On Thursday 8 October, around 20:00 according to reports from Sportowe Fakty and JN, a car carrying Sira Martínez collided with a motorcycle on the N-332 road near Oliva, in the Valencia province of Spain. Sira, the daughter of Paris Saint-Germain coach Luis Enrique and his wife Elena Cullell, was sitting in the passenger seat. The motorcyclist, a Spanish national whom JN describes as 20 years old, died at the scene. Sportowe Fakty reports that the SAMU emergency team arrived after he had already died. Sira was not injured, and JN reports that both occupants of the car were unhurt.
Investigation
The Guardia Civil is leading the investigation into how the collision happened and what manoeuvre the car made beforehand, according to JN and La Vanguardia. The driver, a British man reported as 41 years old by Las Provincias and Europa Press, was tested for alcohol and drugs, and both results were negative. JN reports that he is under investigation on suspicion of negligent homicide, and that authorities are trying to establish whether an irregular manoeuvre put the car in the motorcycle's path. Sportowe Fakty reports that police opened proceedings and that the driver has been given the status of a suspect. Il Messaggero describes the driver as a British cyclist. Investigators are still waiting for expert analysis and witness statements, and no details about the moment of impact or the speed of the vehicles have been released.
Sira Martínez and her family
Il Messaggero reports that Sira is 26 and competes in equestrian events, although the outlets differ on her discipline. Il Messaggero names eventing, while JN and La Vanguardia describe show jumping and equestrian competition more generally. She is the elder daughter of Luis Enrique and Elena Cullell, and the couple also have a son, Pacho. The family lost their younger daughter, Xana, in August 2019, when she was nine years old, after a struggle with osteosarcoma, a rare malignant bone tumour, according to Sportowe Fakty and Il Messaggero. In 2023, Luis Enrique and his wife founded an organisation in her honour to help children with serious illnesses and their families, Il Messaggero reports.
