Leadership reaffirmation

Alejandro Fernández, who has led the party since 2018 and faced internal friction in the past, will be re-elected without opposition. He submitted 1,551 endorsements, well above the 300 required. Feijóo, the national PP president, will close the congress, signaling a consolidated leadership and an end to earlier speculation about a possible removal. Fernández will announce a 22-member executive board that is expected to shape the party's strategy ahead of the 2027 general election and the 2028 Catalan ballot.

Political messaging

In a pre-congress interview, Fernández rejected short-term shortcuts, stating:

Shortcuts can be tempting. But we will never imitate sanchismo to reach power.

Llanos de Luna argued that Catalans have been "trapped in failed projects": separatism brought confrontation and decline, while the current socialist government fell short on public services, housing, and security. She framed the congress as aiming to attract "thousands of Catalans tired of separatism and socialism."

National implications

De Luna stressed that "Catalonia will be decisive for the political change Spain needs" and that every additional deputy and councillor would bring Feijóo closer to the Moncloa. The party entered the congress with 15 seats in the Catalan parliament (up from three) and six seats in the Congress of Deputies (up from two). The internal election and policy road map are meant to strengthen the PP as a credible governing alternative.

Symbolic backdrop

The congress follows closely on the inauguration of the Torre de Jesús of the Sagrada Família, blessed by Pope Leo XIV, which party figures described as an example of the international leadership Catalonia can regain.
