Polonia Bydgoszcz secures second MMPPK gold, 46 years after first; Krosno claims first-ever silver
Wiktor Przyjemski scored a perfect 18 points as Abramczyk Polonia Bydgoszcz cruised to the MMPPK title in Krosno, while hosts Orlen Cellfast Wilki celebrated their first-ever podium finish with silver.
Dominant display from Polonia
Wiktor Przyjemski was untouchable, winning all six of his rides to finish with a perfect 18 points. Maksymilian Pawełczak supported with 10 paid 4, the pair dropping only two points all evening. They began with a 5:1 over Sparta Wrocław and repeated the dose against Motor Lublin. The only blemishes came when Pawełczak was passed by Kacper Halkiewicz of Włókniarz and Antoni Kawczyński of KS Toruń. By heat 17, another 5:1 confirmed the gold medal, Polonia's second in the competition's history. The first came in 1980, the inaugural edition, won by Krzysztof Głowacki and Zbigniew Bizoń. Reserve Kacper Andrzejewski did not take to the track.
Hosts celebrate first-ever podium
Orlen Cellfast Wilki Krosno, racing in front of their home crowd, achieved their best ever MMPPK result. Oskar Kręglicki scored 11 paid 3, while Radosław Kowalski, riding as a reserve for the absent Jakub Wieszczak, added 10 points. The pair opened with a 5:1 over KS Toruń. In heat 7, a frightening crash on the first bend involved Kowalski and Stal Gorzów's Kacper Sobkowiak. Both riders were shaken but Kowalski remounted. The referee ordered a full re-run, a decision that angered home fans who felt Oskar Paluch of Stal should have been excluded. Kręglicki won the re-run, but Kowalski trailed in last and was later disqualified for crossing the inside line with both wheels. Despite that setback, the hosts stayed in medal contention and sealed silver in heat 21, beating Motor Lublin 4:2 to spark wild celebrations.
Bronze decided in run-off
Krono-Plast Włókniarz Częstochowa and Budnex Stal Gorzów both accumulated 19 points, necessitating a run-off for the bronze medal. Szymon Ludwiczak defeated Oskar Paluch to secure third place for Włókniarz, marking their return to the podium after a four-year absence and their tenth MMPPK medal overall. Stal Gorzów, led by Paluch, had been in the hunt throughout but fell just short.
The rest of the field
Sparta Wrocław finished fifth on 14 points after a poor start, while Motor Lublin (13) and KS Toruń (12) brought up the rear. Toruń, five-time champions, saw their hopes fade early after a double defeat to Krosno in heat 1 and a 1:5 loss to Sparta in heat 12. Lublin's medal chances ended in heat 14 with a 2:4 defeat to Stal.
Historical context and format
The MMPPK was first held in 1980 with an age limit of 23. Since 1983 it has been an under-21 competition, and the current racing format has been used since 1992. Unia Leszno tops the all-time medal table with nine golds, but they did not qualify for this year's final after failing to progress from the elimination round. Bydgoszcz's second title moves them up the historical list, while Krosno becomes the newest club to reach the podium.
