Polish presidential aides disclose secret US talks held by Defence Minister Kosiniak-Kamysz
Presidential advisor Nikodem Rachoń and MEP Adam Bielan revealed that Polish Defence Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz held an undisclosed meeting in the United States with Donald Trump, J.D. Vance, or Susie Wiles.
Undisclosed talks with senior US officials
Polish presidential advisor Nikodem Rachoń and Law and Justice MEP Adam Bielan disclosed on 1 October 2026 that Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz held an unannounced meeting in the United States. Bielan stated that he helped organize the discussion with an American official more senior than US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth. Appearing on the Polsat News program Graffiti, Rachoń confirmed that he co-organized the meeting and was personally present alongside Kosiniak-Kamysz. Rachoń identified three possible US interlocutors: White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles, Vice President J.D. Vance, or President Donald Trump.
I know which meeting this is about, because I co-organized it and personally took part in it together with Deputy Prime Minister Kosiniak-Kamysz.
Pentagon visit postponement and bilateral contacts
The revelations follow the postponement of Kosiniak-Kamysz's official bilateral visit to the Pentagon. The Ministry of National Defence announced on Monday, 21 September 2026, that the meeting scheduled for Wednesday, 23 September 2026, was postponed at the urgent request of the United States. The Pentagon confirmed that the delay resulted from a scheduling conflict, with both sides working to establish a new date. Deputy Defence Minister Magdalena Sobkowiak-Czarnecka stated that the rescheduled bilateral session at the Pentagon could take place in mid-November 2026. Instead of the minister, Sobkowiak-Czarnecka and Deputy Defence Minister Paweł Zalewski traveled to Washington to conduct negotiations and prepare defense agreements following NATO chiefs of staff meetings.

Presidential chancellery and domestic tensions
The disclosures surfaced during domestic discussions regarding Poland's relations with the US administration and the role of President Karol Nawrocki's chancellery. Lawmaker Stanisław Bukowiec recalled earlier remarks by Bielan on Telewizja Republika, where Bielan expressed concern that American leadership could respond negatively to Polish domestic actions concerning the Constitutional Tribunal. Bielan warned that such tensions could result in decisions to halt military base construction in Poland, assigning responsibility to Prime Minister Donald Tusk. In response, Bielan denied cancelling any meetings for Kosiniak-Kamysz, clarifying that his involvement was limited to facilitating the high-level engagement. Rachoń argued that disclosing the unannounced talks demonstrates the presidential office's ongoing efforts to support the defense ministry.
Perhaps Mr. Kosiniak-Kamysz will see fit to mention this. That would explain a lot regarding how much the Chancellery of the President tried throughout this entire year to bring about cooperation and join forces.
Inter-agency coordination proposals
Rachoń also cited earlier institutional disagreements between the presidential office and the Ministry of National Defence. He stated that in October 2025, a meeting took place at the National Security Bureau (BBN) where a proposal was presented to establish a joint working group composed of BBN and defense ministry representatives. According to Rachoń, ministry officials rejected the initiative, leading to nine months with minimal inter-agency progress on US alignment. The Ministry of National Defence reiterated in its public statements that it remains actively engaged with American counterparts to execute urgent security measures for NATO member states.
