Polish fuel prices approach 8 PLN for petrol and 9 PLN for diesel as wholesale costs rise

Surge in refinery wholesale prices

Wholesale price schedules published by domestic fuel producers in Poland registered substantial increases across all major fuel types during the third week of September 2026. In an analytical commentary published on Friday, 18 September 2026, analysts from the market research portal e-petrol.pl indicated that refinery valuations extended their upward trajectory compared to figures recorded on the preceding Friday. The wholesale cost for a cubic metre of 95-octane petrol rose by 292.60 PLN over the seven-day period, reaching an average price of 6,370.40 PLN per cubic metre on 18 September. During the same timeframe, wholesale diesel prices in Polish refineries experienced an even steeper increase. Producers added 341.60 PLN to the cost of a cubic metre of diesel, elevating the average wholesale benchmark to 7,509.20 PLN per cubic metre by the end of the week.

Weekly price adjustments across filling stations

The sustained pressure from refinery wholesale adjustments is steadily feeding into retail pump prices throughout the country. Drivers visiting Polish filling stations encountered higher costs across all primary consumer fuels during the seven days leading up to 18 September 2026. The average price of 95-octane E10 petrol increased by 0.10 PLN per litre over the week, reaching a national average level of 7.99 PLN per litre on Friday. Over the identical weekly period, the nationwide average price for diesel fuel climbed by 0.14 PLN per litre, settling at 8.89 PLN per litre at retail forecourts. Liquefied petroleum gas also registered an upward adjustment across the country, rising by 0.13 PLN per litre over the week to reach a retail level of 3.10 PLN per litre for autogas users.

Wholesale pass-through dynamics and market analysis

Market analysts highlighted that the extent of retail price rises seen at Polish stations does not yet reflect the full scale of changes occurring in the wholesale fuel sector. Because pump price adjustments typically take time to mirror higher refinery procurement rates, additional retail increases are expected as earlier wholesale changes filter down to consumers. In their Friday market assessment, analysts pointed out that the gap between wholesale increases and pump adjustments creates direct pressure on future forecourt pricing.

In wholesale price lists of fuel producers in the passing week we recorded a further price increase. A cubic metre of 95-octane petrol, which is today priced on average at 6370.40 PLN, became more expensive by 292.60 PLN since previous Friday. Even more strongly, by 341.60 PLN, the price of diesel fuel increased in this period. Today a cubic metre of diesel costs in refineries an average of 7509.20 PLN.

Forecasts and price threshold projections for late September

Looking ahead to the upcoming week, e-petrol.pl provided detailed price projection intervals for all three main automotive fuel categories sold in Poland. Analysts at the portal anticipate that the second half of September will see retail prices cross key psychological thresholds at service stations nationwide. Specifically, average petrol prices are projected to move above the 8.00 PLN per litre mark, while diesel fuel is expected to exceed 9.00 PLN per litre. For the coming week, e-petrol.pl projects 95-octane E10 petrol to retail between 7.97 PLN and 8.11 PLN per litre. Diesel fuel is forecast to trade within a range of 8.99 PLN to 9.28 PLN per litre, while retail LPG prices are projected between 3.10 PLN and 3.21 PLN per litre across domestic stations.

In the second half of September, we expect the psychological barrier of 8 PLN for petrol and 9 PLN for diesel to be broken at petrol stations.
