Sequential warnings along the eastern border

Poland's Government Centre for Security (RCB) issued three separate emergency warning alerts on 10 September 2026 across two eastern regions bordering Ukraine. The mobile telephone notifications went out to residents across more than 40 counties in the Lubelskie and Podkarpackie voivodeships following Russian air attacks directed against Ukrainian territory. Authorities distributed the morning's first emergency warning at approximately 06:30 and cancelled it several dozen minutes later as conditions stabilized. A second warning was dispatched at around 07:00, remaining active for approximately one hour before being stood down by emergency coordinators. The third regional alert of the day was triggered at around 14:30 as renewed aerial strikes were detected across the border in Ukraine.

Military aviation sorties and airport restrictions

Polish military aviation deployed into national airspace to monitor the border zone and respond to potential aerial threats resulting from the Russian strikes in Ukraine. To accommodate military sorties, the Polish Air Navigation Services Agency temporarily halted civilian flight operations at commercial airports in Lublin and Rzeszow during the morning hours. The agency implemented the flight suspension to secure operational freedom of movement for combat aircraft active in the area. Official alerts broadcast in Polish and English instructed civilians to remain calm and monitor official communication channels while military units maintained continuous surveillance over the frontier.

“Russian air attack on the territory of Ukraine. The situation is being monitored. Polish aviation is operating in Polish airspace. Follow announcements.”

Alert cancellation and dispatch mechanisms

The Government Centre for Security stood down the afternoon alert at 15:09 after confirming that Russian strikes in Ukraine had concluded. The agency confirmed in a follow-up transmission that no direct danger threatened Polish sovereign territory. The Alert RCB system functions as a nationwide SMS notification tool designed to warn citizens of acute hazards and crisis events. It compiles operational data supplied by government ministries, municipal services, the police, the State Fire Service, the Border Guard, and other central administrative bodies to alert populations residing in potential danger zones.

“The attack on the territory of Ukraine has ended. No threat to the territory of the Republic of Poland. Follow announcements.”

Coverage across Lublin and Podkarpackie counties

Because the security situation improved while the 14:30 alert was actively transmitting, emergency officials interrupted the outgoing broadcast midway through delivery. As a result of this halted dispatch, some recipients received both the initial warning and the cancellation notice, while others received solely the all-clear message. In the Lubelskie voivodeship, the warning encompassed cities and counties including Lublin, Biała Podlaska, Chełm, Zamość, Puławy, Opole Lubelskie, Kraśnik, Janów Lubelski, Włodawa, Łęczna, Świdnik, Krasnystaw, Hrubieszów, Tomaszów Lubelski, Biłgoraj, Łuków, Ryki, Radzyń Podlaski, Parczew, and Lubartów.

Broad alert radius in Podkarpackie

In the Podkarpackie voivodeship, notifications reached populations across cities and rural districts including Rzeszów, Przemyśl, Krosno, Tarnobrzeg, Stalowa Wola, Nisko, Leżajsk, Kolbuszowa, Mielec, Dębica, and Ropczyce-Sędziszów. Warnings also extended through Łańcut, Przeworsk, Jarosław, Lubaczów, Jasło, Strzyżów, Brzozów, Sanok, Lesko, and the Bieszczady region. The alert perimeter covered an extensive border belt adjoining Ukraine, ensuring that local populations remained informed while emergency services and defence assets maintained operational readiness.
