Poland issues RCB air alert for Lublin and Subcarpathia after Russian strike on Ukraine
Residents of the Lublin and Subcarpathian voivodeships received RCB alerts as Polish aircraft operated in Polish airspace. The alert remains in force until cancelled, and authorities ask people to follow further information and instructions from services.
Alert across eastern Poland
The Government Centre for Security (RCB) sent alerts to residents of Lublin, Chełm, Zamość and Biała Podlaska, as well as to many counties in Lublin Voivodeship. In Subcarpathia the alert covered Tarnobrzeg, Rzeszów, Przemyśl and Krosno, along with a long list of counties in that region. The alert was sent after a Russian air attack on Ukraine and is in force until cancelled.
The RCB message
The text of the communique reads as follows.
WARNING! Russian air attack on the territory of Ukraine. The situation is being monitored. Polish aviation is operating in the airspace of the Republic of Poland. Await further announcements.
The message was timed at 00.19 and asks residents in the covered areas to follow further information and obey instructions from services.
Military response
According to the RCB, Russia attacked Ukraine during the night and the Polish military scrambled fighter jets that guard the country's airspace. The alert itself says only that the situation is being monitored and that Polish aviation is operating in Polish airspace. The sources do not say which Ukrainian locations were targeted or whether any damage or casualties were reported.
What remains open
Both reports say further information will follow, but the available text contains no updates beyond the initial alert. The sources do not indicate when the alert might be cancelled.
