The Kraśnik Górny intervention
The fatal confrontation took place on 24 September 2026 in the village of Kraśnik Górny, located in the Lower Silesia region. Sieroń and his fellow officers from the District Police Headquarters in Bolesławiec were conducting investigative actions against a local resident suspected of property theft. During the course of the intervention, the situation escalated when the suspect produced an unregistered firearm and fired shots at the officers. Sieroń sustained direct gunshot wounds during the encounter and required urgent medical evacuation. A helicopter from the Air Ambulance Service (Lotnicze Pogotowie Ratunkowe) flew the wounded sergeant from the scene to a specialized hospital facility. Medical teams delivered intensive care over the following hours, but the 29-year-old officer died of his gunshot wounds on Friday, 25 September 2026.
Criminal proceedings against the suspect
Following the shooting in Kraśnik Górny, law enforcement authorities arrested the suspected shooter, identified as 33-year-old Kraśnik resident Mariusz G. A regional court approved a motion from investigators to place the 33-year-old suspect in pre-trial detention for a period of three months. Prosecutors confirmed that the suspect had discharged an illegal, unregistered weapon during the encounter. In addition, investigative background checks revealed that the suspect held an earlier criminal conviction in Germany. Prosecutor Sebastian Woźniak announced that the death of the officer required an immediate adjustment to the pending legal charges against the suspect.
Unfortunately, the victim died, so the legal qualification will definitely be changed to murder combined with an active assault.
Forensic specialists and ballistics experts continue to examine physical evidence recovered from Kraśnik Górny to verify the trajectory and order of fire. Prosecutor Woźniak described the sequence of events leading up to the fatal discharge.
Unfortunately, the suspect returned to the scene and opened fire toward one of the officers. We are investigating what happened next. Ballistics is essential here.
Service record and memorial plaque
Sieroń had served with the Bolesławiec District Police Headquarters for slightly under two years, during which he carried out frontline patrol and investigative duties. In an official communication, the police command noted that the officer carried out his assignments with dedication to public safety and strict adherence to the law. Following his death, the General Police Headquarters confirmed that Sieroń's name will be inscribed onto the official Memorial Plaque at police headquarters in Warsaw. The plaque commemorates fallen officers who lost their lives while protecting citizens under conditions of extreme risk.
With his attitude, he confirmed the meaning of the words he spoke upon entering service: "even at the risk of life." He remained faithful to them until the end.
The Polish police institution emphasized that his loss represents a tragedy for his family, colleagues, and the entire law enforcement community across the country.
