Sudden storms with gale-force winds and hail tear off roofs and topple trees in Małopolska and Podkarpacie
Thunderstorms packing strong winds, heavy rain and hail struck Małopolska and Podkarpacie on Monday, downing trees, damaging buildings and triggering weather alerts across eastern Poland.
Sudden storms tore through Małopolska and Podkarpacie on Monday afternoon, bringing down trees, ripping roofs off buildings, and triggering emergency alerts. Firefighters in Małopolska had received 74 calls by 2 p.m., with the worst damage in Borusowa.
Two residential building roofs completely torn off and three partially torn off farm buildings.
No one was injured. In Kraków, fire crews responded 38 times, mainly clearing drains and removing branches. In Podkarpacie, teams focused on clearing fallen trees from roads, sidewalks, and power lines.

IMGW issued first-level thunderstorm warnings for eastern Poland, covering Warmińsko-Mazurskie, Podlaskie, Mazowieckie, Lubelskie, Świętokrzyskie, Podkarpackie, Małopolska, and parts of Pomorskie, Śląskie and Łódzkie. The Government Security Centre sent alerts to residents of four voivodships. Firefighters urged residents to stay indoors and secure loose items on balconies.
