Poland's pensions could rise at least 3.48% from March 2027, forecasts suggest
The 2027 budget draft points to a higher indexation rate of 3.96%, while the government's rule sets a floor of 3.48%. The minimum pension would rise from 1,978.49 zł to between 2,047.34 zł and 2,056.84 zł gross.
The 3.48% baseline under the government proposal
In June 2026 the Council of Ministers proposed setting the 2027 indexation rate at 20% of real average wage growth in 2026. Under that rule, pensions and disability pensions would rise by at least 3.48% from 1 March 2027, according to the official publication dated 9 June 2026. The forecast minimum pension would go up by 68.85 zł, from 1,978.49 zł to 2,047.34 zł gross, and the estimated cost of indexation under this scenario is about 16.7 billion zł. A regulation of the Council of Ministers dated 28 July 2026 confirmed the scenario and took effect the day after its publication. The articles note that these documents did not change the indexation mechanism itself, only the rate it produces.
- Government publishes proposal setting indexation at 20% of 2026 real wage growth, at least 3.48%
- Council of Ministers regulation confirms the 3.48% scenario, in force the day after publication
- Budget draft for 2027 adopted, with inflation assumptions pointing to 3.96%
- GUS publishes the data behind the final indexation rate
- Indexation of pensions and disability pensions applies from this date
Budget draft points to a higher rate
The draft state budget for 2027, adopted in the last days of August, assumes higher inflation than earlier forecasts. Kurier Lubelski links the change to the war in the Middle East and high fuel prices, which it says pushed up the expected average annual inflation. Based on the new budget assumptions, indexation could reach 3.96%, which would lift the minimum pension to 2,056.84 zł gross from 1 March 2027. Nowa Trybuna Opolska calls the 3.48% figure a preliminary value and says the final rate will be known only in early 2027, after the Główny Urząd Statystyczny (GUS, the Central Statistical Office) publishes its data. Until then, both figures appear in the coverage and neither is confirmed.
- 2023 indexation
- 14.8 %
- 2024 indexation
- 12.12 %
- 2027 government proposal (20% wage-growth rule)

- 2027 budget-based forecast

What pensioners would receive
At 3.48%, a pension of 5,000 zł gross would rise by about 174 zł gross a month, which Nowa Trybuna Opolska says adds more than 2,000 zł over a year. Increases range from several dozen zł to more than 200 zł a month, depending on the size of the benefit. The paper says larger pensions receive correspondingly larger increases in cash terms, while the lowest benefit still gains several hundred zł over the year. Kurier Lubelski has published gross and net tables for the 3.96% scenario, showing what the same increase would mean at different benefit levels.
Recent indexations and proposals to change the rules
Nowa Trybuna Opolska recalls that pensions rose 14.8% in 2023 and 12.12% in 2024, followed by increases of 5.5% and 5.3% in the following years. A 3.48% rate would be the lowest indexation in several years, and the paper attributes the slowdown mainly to a sharp fall in inflation. Unions had proposed using 50% of real wage growth instead of 20%, a change that Kurier Lubelski considers unlikely. Nowa Trybuna Opolska reports that the debate also covers a percentage-plus-fixed-amount indexation, which would guarantee every pensioner a minimum increase regardless of benefit size. Raising the wage-growth share is also under consideration, which would mean larger raises but higher budget spending. Both options are proposals only, and the 2027 rate will be set on the basis of the GUS data due in early 2027.
