62-year-old man stabbed to death in his home in Civitanova Marche, partner suspected
Marco Pennesi, 62, was found dead with multiple stab wounds in his apartment on Viale Matteotti in Civitanova Marche. Neighbors heard screams before the body was discovered by his cousin; police suspect his partner.
Discovery of the body
Around 7 p.m. on Wednesday, July 1, neighbors in an apartment building on Viale Matteotti in Civitanova Marche heard screams and loud noises coming from Marco Pennesi's home. They alerted a cousin of the 62-year-old, who immediately went to the apartment. Inside, he found Pennesi lying on the floor in a pool of blood, dead from at least one deep stab wound to an arm, suggesting death by exsanguination.
The victim
Marco Pennesi was 62 years old and lived on the northern seafront of Civitanova Marche, a coastal town in the province of Macerata. No further personal details have been released.
The investigation
Emergency services, including an ambulance crew, were called but could only confirm the death. Police, Carabinieri, and local police attended the scene. Prosecutor Enrico Riccioni is coordinating the investigation, with the head of the Macerata mobile squad Anna Moffa, commissioner Riccardo Zenobi, and medical examiner Antonio Tombolini also present. Forensic teams were conducting examinations late into the evening.
The main suspect
Police are focusing on the victim's partner, a woman around 30 years old, who was in the apartment at the time. She has been placed in a police car near the residence and is considered the prime suspect. Investigators believe the killing may have erupted after a violent domestic quarrel.
