Paramount develops live-action Cyberpunk 2077 film with Lorenzo di Bonaventura
Deadline reports that Paramount Pictures is developing a live-action film in the Cyberpunk 2077 universe, with Lorenzo di Bonaventura attached to produce alongside CD Projekt Red. The project is at an early stage, and no screenwriter, director, cast or plot has been named.
Paramount's project
Paramount Pictures is developing a live-action film set in the Cyberpunk 2077 universe, according to an exclusive Deadline report published on 8 October 2026. The film is based on CD Projekt Red's best-selling action-adventure role-playing game. Lorenzo di Bonaventura is attached to produce alongside CD Projekt Red, the Poland-based developer and franchise rights holder. Deadline also says Paramount has recently shown growing interest in video game franchises. The reports name no screenwriter, director, cast or plot, and Engadget called the report very preliminary.
The developer's response
Michał Nowakowski, Joint CEO of CD Projekt RED, confirmed the project on X. He wrote the following.
We are excited about the opportunity to work with Paramount as a future partner who shares our creative ambitions for the Cyberpunk brand. We will be able to reveal more details at the right time.
Nowakowski did not give a date for further details. Engadget said it was unclear whether this is a separate endeavour from the production deal with Anonymous Content announced in 2023.
An earlier live-action attempt
CD Projekt Red first announced in October 2023 that it was working on a live-action Cyberpunk, and said it had partnered with Anonymous Content on the project. In May 2024 the developer said that the Hollywood writers' strike, which lasted about 150 days from May to nearly the end of September 2023, had left the live-action project at a standstill for a time. The timeline below places those statements alongside the new Paramount report.

The game and its sales
The game follows V, a mercenary who is reluctantly implanted with a biochip carrying an engram of rockstar Johnny Silverhand, a role Keanu Reeves plays in the game. In July 2026 CD Projekt Red said Cyberpunk 2077 had sold 40 million copies, and its Phantom Liberty expansion 15 million. Half-year figures show the Cyberpunk IP generated 268.6 million zł in revenue in the first half of 2026, against 279.9 million zł in the same period of 2025.

Paramount's wider game slate
Deadline reports that Paramount is co-producing a Street Fighter adaptation with Legendary, which opens on 16 October. Paramount also has a Call of Duty film in development, with Peter Berg directing and Taylor Sheridan writing. The second season of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is due on 20 October with 10 episodes, and the series was animated by Studio Trigger and directed by Hiroyuki Imaishi. The Blade Runner 2099 series premieres on 25 November 2026. An Apple TV adaptation of William Gibson's Neuromancer is due in late January 2027.
