Osasuna sack Luis Miguel Ramis after Betis defeat and bring back Jagoba Arrasate
Osasuna dismissed Luis Miguel Ramis on Monday, 12 October 2026, after eight matches in charge, and handed the job back to Jagoba Arrasate on a contract until 30 June 2029. The club sits 16th in LaLiga with eight points.
Ramis out after the Betis defeat
Osasuna dismissed Luis Miguel Ramis on Monday, 12 October 2026, one day after a 5-2 defeat by Real Betis at the Cartuja in Seville. Ramis took charge in July and managed eight matches. Reuters counted four defeats in five matches in that run, with 17 goals conceded, and Osasuna won twice in LaLiga during his spell. The club's statement said Ramis's coaching staff would leave with him: José Manuel Gil, Iván Madroño, Miguel Ángel Fernández and José Fajardo.
The club explained the decision in its official note.
The decision was taken this morning at a meeting of the board of directors, which endorsed the criteria of the sporting management.
A poor run since August
Ramis's spell started well in August, with one draw and two wins, according to RTVE. September and the start of October went badly, and the club's statement cited the poor results. The side sits 16th with eight points after eight matchdays, and RTVE reported that the team was hovering around the relegation places. Osasuna's form had left the club with little room for another poor result against Betis, which proved to be the last match under Ramis.
Jagoba Arrasate returns
The club announced Arrasate within minutes of Ramis's dismissal. The 48-year-old has signed a contract until 30 June 2029, covering the rest of this season and two more campaigns, according to Europa Press. Bittor Alkiza returns as his second coach. Arrasate first joined Osasuna in 2018 from Numancia, after a spell at Real Sociedad, and won promotion to the top flight as Segunda champion in his first season. Over the following five seasons he kept the club in LaLiga, and in 2022/23 Osasuna reached the Copa del Rey final in Seville, losing to Real Madrid, which also brought Conference League qualification. He then coached RCD Mallorca in 68 official matches, a spell that ended with relegation to Segunda. Arrasate has 256 matches on the Osasuna bench, the second most in the club's history according to the club.
Schedule and first matches
The official presentation takes place on Tuesday, 13 October at 12:30 at El Sadar, streamed on Osasuna TV and Radio Osasuna. Arrasate runs his first training session on Wednesday, 14 October at 10:30 at Tajonar, an open-door session. His first match back is at home against Real Racing Club on Sunday, 18 October. The club said it will announce the rest of the coaching staff later. The sequence of events is set out below.
