
PP senator María José Ortega seriously injured in Palencia car crash
María José Ortega, PP senator and mayor of Aguilar de Campoo, was airlifted to hospital in Burgos after a collision on a provincial road in Palencia on Friday afternoon.
The accident
On Friday afternoon, shortly before 14:25, Senator Ortega’s car was struck in a front-side collision on the PP-2201 provincial road, at kilometre 3. She was returning from a festive event in Menaza, a hamlet of Aguilar de Campoo.
Rescue and medical transport
A medical helicopter evacuated the senator to the ICU of the University Hospital of Burgos (HUBU). The two other occupants, town planning councillor Jesús Manuel Sevilla and his 25-year-old daughter, were taken by conventional ambulance to the Río Carrión Hospital in Palencia.

María José Ortega is a senator for the conservative People’s Party (PP) and the mayor of Aguilar de Campoo, a municipality of about 7,000 in the province of Palencia. Jesús Manuel Sevilla, who was driving, serves as the town’s urban planning councillor and a provincial deputy. One report indicates his wife was also in the vehicle, but she was not listed among those requiring hospital transfer.
