Met Éireann issues Status Orange rain warning for Donegal, Galway and Mayo
Met Éireann has placed Donegal, Galway and Mayo under an overnight Status Orange rain warning, cautioning that flooding and damage to buildings are likely.
Met Éireann issued an overnight Status Orange rain warning for counties Donegal, Galway and Mayo, in effect from 1am until 7am on 12 September. Forecasters warned of very heavy and persistent rainfall alongside thunderstorms, lightning damage, public transport disruption, and difficult travelling conditions, with damage to homes and businesses considered likely.
The alert follows a wider Status Yellow rain warning for Clare, Donegal, Galway, Leitrim, Mayo and Sligo that took effect at 9pm on 11 September and runs until 9am on 12 September. At 1am, conditions prompted the upgrade to the orange alert across Donegal, Galway and Mayo.
A separate Status Yellow rain warning will take effect for Cork and Kerry at 9am on 12 September, remaining active until 9pm on 13 September. The weather service indicated persistent and occasionally heavy rain could cause localised flooding, difficult travel conditions, and disruption to outdoor events.
