
64-year-old hiker found unconscious on Mount Olympus, carried to safety by rescue teams
A 64-year-old hiker lost consciousness on a trail near the Spilios Agapitos refuge and was carried down to Prionia by firefighters and rescue teams early Sunday morning.
On Saturday, July 11, shortly after 2 p.m., the Fire Service was alerted that a man had lost consciousness near the Spilios Agapitos refuge (Zolota) on Mount Olympus. The victim, a 64-year-old hiker and member of a three-person group, was carried to the refuge by others before rescue teams arrived.
Twelve firefighters from Litochoro and Katerini, along with the Mountain Rescue Team of the 2nd EMAK and the Hellenic Rescue Team, used a stretcher to transport him to Prionia, a safe access point. An EKAB ambulance received him there. The operation concluded in the early hours of Sunday.
