On Saturday afternoon, 8 August 2026, renovation work at Hotel Manor on Kanarkowa Street in Olsztyn, in the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship, caused damage to an external wall of the building. The hotel is located near Lake Tyrsko and was hosting both individual guests and organized summer camps at the time. FAKT24 reported the incident occurred shortly after 15:00, while TVN24 placed it around 16:00. Sources alternately described the work as renovation or construction. According to TVN24, the work involved undermining the foundations, and part of the damaged wall collapsed. The compromised wall is under pressure from the weight of the hotel's indoor pool, creating what TVN24 described as a real risk of a building disaster. RMF24, citing its reporter Stanisław Pawłowski, listed the address as Kurkowa Street rather than Kanarkowa, a discrepancy not resolved by other sources. All sources confirmed that no one was injured in the incident.

Evacuation of over 200 guests

More than 200 people were evacuated from the hotel, including approximately 150 children attending summer camps. Police commissioner Anna Balińska of the Olsztyńska police told PAP that 90 individual guests were evacuated along with participants and supervisors of two camps, one numbering 130 and the other 15 people. The evacuation was carried out jointly by hotel staff and firefighters. RMF24 offered a different breakdown: over 200 guests were registered at the hotel, but approximately 100 people were inside the building at the time of the incident, including 10 hotel employees. RMF24 also reported 30 camp participants and 3 supervisors among the evacuees, a lower figure than the 145 camp participants and supervisors cited by police. FAKT24 described guests and children fleeing in panic, noting that for many of the children it was a very stressful situation, though the evacuation proceeded without dramatic incidents and police and firefighters had the situation under control.

Fortunately there are no injured persons, nothing happened to anyone. We are waiting for the building supervision. It is the inspectors who will decide whether the building is safe and when guests will be able to return inside.

Building closed pending inspection

Police and firefighters secured the scene after the evacuation. FAKT24 reported that all emergency services responded to the scene, and that the situation was serious with every minute mattering. The building supervision authority and the crisis management center were both notified, according to TVN24. Junior brigadier Jakub Kowalski of the State Fire Service in Olsztyn told PAP that the building supervision decided to close the facility until Monday, 10 August. On that day, the building supervision will conduct further activities and make additional decisions about the building's future. The hotel remains closed in the meantime. RMF24 noted that the building supervision inspector's assessment of what exactly happened will determine the next steps for emergency services. The quick response of officers and hotel staff allowed all those inside to be evacuated promptly, according to FAKT24.
