Liam and Noel Gallagher premiere Oasis reunion documentary at the Venice Film Festival

Brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher attended the Venice Film Festival on 5 September 2026 for the premiere of their documentary, Oasis: Don't Look Back in Anger. The musicians arrived at the Lido by water taxi in the morning, posing for photographers before skipping the scheduled press conference. After directors Dylan Southern and Will Lovelace and screenwriter Steven Knight walked the red carpet at the Palazzo del Cinema, the brothers appeared from inside the venue to greet fans, sign autographs, and pose together with raised fists.

Asked by a reporter about his impressions upon arriving in Venice, Liam Gallagher described the experience as biblical, while Noel Gallagher replied in Italian with bellissimo. Liam Gallagher also addressed the press corps outside the palace.

Inside the reunion documentary

The two-hour documentary, screened out of competition at the Mostra, records the band's reconciliation and their 2025 stadium tour. The production team used 12 hidden cameras during early rehearsals to film the brothers' initial interactions after 15 years of estrangement. The film follows their interactions from early rehearsal sessions through live performances, alongside fan interviews and footage of a church service where a priest compared concertgoers to biblical disciples.

The feature includes the first joint interview given by Liam and Noel Gallagher in more than two decades. Screenwriter Steven Knight noted that the production focused on the current reunion rather than revisiting the 2009 backstage altercation.

This is a story of how two people who had drifted apart come back together. Nothing more. All we wanted was as simple as being there with a camera when they saw each other for the first time in rehearsals, following them throughout all the concerts, and waiting to see what happened until the end. We even hoped with anticipation that the film would have a happy ending, but we weren't 100% counting on it.

Path from 2009 split to the 2025 stage

The group dissolved on 28 August 2009 after a backstage fight in Paris forced the cancellation of their headline concert and the remainder of their European tour. The brothers did not speak or perform together until announcing their reunion on 27 August 2024 with an initial schedule of 14 concerts.

The Oasis Live '25 Tour opened in Cardiff on 4 July 2025 before extending across ten additional countries. In the documentary narration, the brothers state that the tour helped restore their personal relationship, noting that they now regularly send each other videos.

Production and theatrical release

Directors Southern and Lovelace initially planned to film the tour unobtrusively without formal interviews. As the concert schedule progressed across 2025, both brothers agreed to sit down together on camera.

In the end, after the time we spent together on the reunion tour last year, the possibility of a joint interview came up, but it was not something we had planned.

The film is scheduled for general theatrical release in cinemas on 11 September 2026.
