The fifth matchday of the 2. Bundesliga began on Friday evening as 1. FC Nürnberg recorded a 2:1 home victory over Hannover 96. Playing in front of 41,202 spectators at the Max-Morlock-Stadion, the hosts took the lead following consecutive defensive errors by Hannover during build-up play. Boris Tomiak failed to clear the ball effectively, and Waniss Taibi subsequently lost possession inside the penalty box. The decisive goal arrived in the 65th minute when 22-year-old forward Mohamed Ali Zoma scored from the ground while falling, marking his fifth goal of the season. Hannover had one late chance to equalize in the 94th minute, but Hayate Matsuda failed to convert.

Darmstadt secures first victory
In the second Friday fixture of matchday five, SV Darmstadt 98 secured their first victory of the season with a 2:1 win over Arminia Bielefeld. Forward Ho-jae Lee gave Florian Kohfeldt's side an early advantage in the third minute, scoring his second goal of the campaign. Arminia Bielefeld equalized through Marius Wörl in the 59th minute, but Milan Smit restored Darmstadt's lead by converting a penalty in the 86th minute. The victory lifted Darmstadt off the bottom of the 2. Bundesliga standings, while Bielefeld recorded their third consecutive defeat in three away matches.
