Noskova beats Pegula in delayed Berlin final to claim second WTA title
The Czech 21-year-old defeated Jessica Pegula in three sets after a six-hour weather delay forced evacuation of the venue.
Weather chaos in Berlin
Severe thunderstorms swept through the German capital on Sunday, forcing the evacuation of the Rot-Weiss Tennis Club and delaying the WTA 500 final by almost six hours. Heavy rain damaged parts of the venue's infrastructure and technical systems. Organizers issued multiple updates, first at 11:25, then confirming that play would not resume before 16:00.
We were forced to evacuate the tournament grounds as a precautionary measure. Heavy rainfall caused damage to parts of the venue's infrastructure. Despite close coordination with the German Weather Service, the storm reached an intensity we did not anticipate. Your safety is our highest priority.
- First delay announced due to approaching storm
- Scheduled start time; venue evacuated

The final
When the players finally took the court, Linda Noskova claimed the opening set before Jessica Pegula fought back to take the second 6-4, the first set Noskova had dropped all tournament. The Czech broke early in the deciding set and maintained control to win in exactly two hours. It was her second career WTA title and first at the 500 level.
Rankings and Wimbledon implications
The victory continues Noskova's rapid rise: she is set to climb to 10th in the WTA rankings, breaking into the top 10 for the first time. For Pegula, the 2024 champion, the loss is a setback just a week before Wimbledon. Both players are expected to compete in Bad Homburg next as a final grass-court tune-up.
Polish interest
Magdalena Fręch, the only Polish player in the Berlin main draw, lost in the first round. On Sunday, her first-round match in Bad Homburg against Naomi Osaka was interrupted by rain and postponed to Monday with Osaka leading 5-4 in the opening set.
