Nine injured in M50 wrong-way crash as one teenager fights for life; motorcyclist dies in Donegal
Eight teenagers and a man in his 20s were hospitalised after a car travelling the wrong way on the M50 collided head-on with another vehicle near Firhouse, Dublin, at about 5.30am on Sunday. One youth remains in critical condition.
M50 wrong-way collision
A vehicle travelling northbound on the southbound carriageway of the M50 collided head-on with another car at Junction 12, Firhouse, Dublin, at approximately 5.30am on Sunday, 9 August 2026. The wrong-way vehicle was carrying eight male juveniles and was driving down the up ramp when the collision occurred. All eight teenagers were transported to multiple hospitals for treatment, with one youth remaining in a critical condition. The male driver of the second car, aged in his 20s, was also taken to hospital with injuries described as serious. The section of the M50 southbound from Junction 12 to Junction 11 remains closed, with local diversions in place and a Garda forensic collision examination underway.
Gardaí are appealing to road users who were travelling on the M50 between Junction 14 and Junction 11, northbound or southbound, between 5am and 5.30am on Sunday and who may have dashcam footage to make it available to investigating officers. Separately, a man aged in his 20s is in a serious condition in hospital following a collision between a car and a bus in Co Kerry in the early hours of Sunday morning. The crash occurred on the N70 at Aghatubrid, Caherciveen, at approximately 5am. The car driver was seriously injured and transferred to University Hospital Cork. The bus driver, a man aged in his 50s, was uninjured. The road is closed and will be examined by Garda technical staff, with diversions in place. Gardaí have appealed for anyone travelling on the N70 at Aghatubrid between 4.30am and 5am with dashcam footage to contact Killarney Garda Station on 064 667 1160.
Motorcyclist dies in Co Donegal
A motorcyclist has died following a collision with a car in Co Donegal. The incident occurred at around 4.30pm on Friday afternoon on the N56 road near Termon. The man, aged in his 60s, was pronounced dead at the scene. His body has been removed to the mortuary at Letterkenny University Hospital, where a postmortem will be carried out. No further details about the circumstances of the collision have been released.
