NFL suspends officials Jeff Seeman and Adrian Hill after confrontations with players
The NFL suspended line judge Jeff Seeman for two games and referee Adrian Hill for one game following separate confrontations with players during Sunday matchups.
The National Football League suspended two on-field officials on Monday following verbal confrontations with players during Sunday games. Ramon George, the NFL vice president of officiating, issued a two-game suspension to line judge Jeff Seeman and a one-game suspension to referee Adrian Hill. League sources told The Athletic that both disciplinary penalties are unpaid. The actions followed public scrutiny after broadcast footage of both incidents circulated on social media and drew criticism from player leadership.
Incident between Jeff Seeman and Trey McBride
Seeman received his two-game suspension after directing expletives at Arizona Cardinals tight end Trey McBride during the fourth quarter of a 36-24 loss to the New York Giants. With Arizona trailing 27-24, quarterback Jacoby Brissett threw an incomplete pass on third down to McBride, who was contacted by Giants cornerback Dru Phillips prior to the ball arriving. No defensive pass interference was called, forcing the Cardinals to punt. When McBride protested the ruling, television cameras captured Seeman cursing at him twice on the sideline. CBS sideline reporter Aditi Kinkhabwala, who stood beside the exchange, reported that McBride asked politely and never used profanity during the encounter.
This kind of behavior from an official towards a player is unacceptable. Players are consistently held accountable when the roles are reversed. We expect the NFL to hold officials to the same standard.

Altercation involving Adrian Hill in Minnesota
Hill was sanctioned for one game following an incident during the Minnesota Vikings home game against the Miami Dolphins. During a play blown dead by a penalty whistle, Dolphins running back Ollie Gordon II blocked Vikings linebacker Eric Wilson into Hill, knocking the referee to the ground. Wilson attempted to help Hill back to his feet, but Hill declined assistance, stood up independently, and shouted at Wilson to return to his team's huddle. Following the game, Wilson characterized the moment as lighthearted and noted that he apologized directly to Hill, who accepted the explanation. Minnesota head coach Kevin O'Connell addressed the episode on Monday, describing it as a fast sequence in a high-intensity environment while expressing confidence in Hill's broader track record.
I just think it's one of those situations in kind of a high-energy moment there. I think stuff like that can happen sometimes, but I don't have any major concerns, and I think Adrian's a really good official and does a really good job. I think that was just kind of fast moment that happened, and we can put it behind us, hopefully.

Officiating backgrounds and historical league precedent
Both disciplined officials possess extended tenure within NFL officiating crews. Seeman entered the league in 2002 as a field judge and line judge before serving exclusively as a line judge since 2003, working at least 14 games every season. Hill joined the NFL officiating ranks in 2010 as a line judge and side judge before earning a promotion to referee in 2019. In-game penalties against officials remain rare in professional football, though previous actions include discipline against umpire Roy Ellison, who received a one-game suspension in 2013 and a one-game leave alongside a $9,300 fine in 2018 for derogatory remarks toward players.
