Bournemouth take early two-goal lead

Bournemouth controlled the opening 45 minutes at St James' Park through the high-pressing system implemented by new manager Marco Rose. Ramsey secures late point

Newcastle equalised in the 88th minute when substitute Jacob Ramsey scored inside the penalty area. Thiaw knocked down a delivery with his back to goal, allowing Ramsey to place a low finish into the corner of the net. Ramsey had seen limited action since Jaissle replaced Eddie Howe as manager, but his late contribution preserved Newcastle's unbeaten record. The concession continued a defensive pattern for Bournemouth, who have conceded four of their five league goals this season after the 80th minute. Bournemouth nonetheless extended their unbeaten league run against Newcastle to nine matches, though Rose remains without a victory in his first three fixtures.

The result leaves Newcastle provisionally sixth in the Premier League with five points from three matches, having opened with a 2–2 draw against Liverpool and a 2–0 win at Tottenham Hotspur. Both Jaissle and Rose are German coaches with prior experience managing RB Salzburg. Bournemouth sit 14th on two points after earlier fixtures against Manchester City (a 2–1 loss) and Everton (a 1–1 draw). The match opened Saturday's Premier League programme, which continues with five afternoon games including Manchester City against Coventry and a London derby between Fulham and Crystal Palace, followed by Hull City hosting Aston Villa at 5:30 pm.
