French singer Patrick Bruel faces two more sexual assault complaints

Two new complaints

Two additional criminal complaints were lodged against Patrick Bruel at the Nanterre court on Friday 12 June 2026, the public prosecutor confirmed. One complaint alleges an attempted rape and sexual assault during the La Réunion film festival in October 2007, where Bruel served as a patron. The second accuses him of a rape and sexual assault in May 2012.

The La Réunion incident

The 2007 complainant, identified only as Amandine, is a 45-year-old psychotherapist. She told Mediapart she had known Bruel since 2000 and had several encounters with him through 2003, describing the dynamic as always requiring a "passing through his bed". In October 2007, she says she went to his hotel room during the festival.

Bruel's legal status

Bruel, 67, was indicted on Wednesday 10 June on four sets of charges, including rape, attempted rape, sexual assault and sexual harassment. He spent 48 hours in police custody earlier this week and was released under judicial control. Conditions include a €500,000 bail, surrendering his passport, a ban on leaving French territory, and an order to avoid contact with victims and not to visit massage parlours. He must also undergo psychological treatment. In four other cases he was placed under the less severe status of assisted witness.

Geographic span of allegations

The existing charges cover multiple locations and years. A rape in Neuilly-sur-Seine in 2008, an attempted rape in Brussels in 2010, and sexual assault and harassment in Perpignan and Ajaccio in 2019 are among the cases where Bruel has been indicted. The prosecution had requested he remain in pre-trial detention, but the court opted for strict judicial supervision instead.

Rapidly expanding case

The two latest complaints bring the number of formal proceedings into double digits. Thirteen earlier complaints are under review, though some may already be time-barred. Me Jade Dousselin, representing the two new plaintiffs, told BFMTV the case is "only at the beginning" and that "testimonies are flooding in in large numbers".

We must expect rapid and important developments in this case, likely to give rise to new indictments.

Bruel denies all allegations. His lawyer, Fanny Colin, said he contests both the facts and the criminal qualifications. Last week the singer cancelled most of his upcoming tour and suspended his Paris theatre run of 'Deuxième Partie'.
