NASCAR drivers Ryan Blaney and Carson Hocevar clashed on the track and in the pit area during the race at Bristol Motor Speedway. The conflict began just a few laps before the end of the race as both drivers fought directly for second place. Blaney completed an overtaking move against Hocevar, who initiated an immediate counterattack into the corner. While Blaney attempted to cover the inside line, Hocevar refused to lift off the throttle. The vehicles made heavy contact, sending Blaney into a spin and directly into the outside retaining wall.

The impact caused terminal damage to Blaney's car, preventing him from continuing and forcing an immediate retirement from the race. The crash resulted in a loss of points for Blaney in the NASCAR championship standings. Hocevar managed to keep driving despite the collision, staying on track to finish the event.

Altercation in the pit lane

After returning to the garage and pit area, an angry Blaney waited for Hocevar to complete the race and exit his vehicle. Convinced that Hocevar had deliberately wrecked him instead of conceding position, Blaney made his intentions clear before the confrontation took place.

“Yes. Something is going to happen.”

When Hocevar stepped out in the pit lane, Blaney approached him and initiated physical contact by shoving his rival. Hocevar retaliated without hesitation, striking Blaney in the face with his right fist before landing a second punch. The pit road area turned chaotic as crew members and race officials rushed in to restrain both drivers. Blaney broke free from the people holding him back and delivered a heavy punch to Hocevar before the two were finally separated. NASCAR later described the altercation as one of the fiercest physical fights in the series in recent years.

Driver statements and disciplinary review

Following the brawl, Blaney criticized Hocevar's driving decisions, explaining that he gave his rival ample racing room and chose not to run him into the barrier.

“I just felt like he didn't lift. I gave him plenty of room. I didn't slam the door on him, didn't push him into the wall, nothing. I could have done that easily. I defended the inside line, and he decided he wanted to be there, didn't lift, and wrecked me.”

Hocevar acknowledged Blaney's anger following the race, recognizing the impact of the lost championship points and the abrupt end to Blaney's race.

“I understand why he's so upset. I would probably be mad at myself too.”

Order was restored once track officials and team personnel kept the opposing camps apart. NASCAR is expected to review the crash and the subsequent pit road fight to issue official disciplinary penalties against the drivers involved.
