Movistar Plus and Skydance extend alliance with joint HBO series for Spain
Movistar Plus and HBO will co-produce Spanish series under a joint label, announced on Tuesday, 13 October 2026. The two-year deal also keeps HBO Max inside Movistar Plus and renews film and channel rights.
A joint label for Spanish series
Movistar Plus and Skydance have extended their strategic alliance through a new two-year global agreement, announced on Tuesday, 13 October 2026. The centrepiece is a joint label for original series developed by Movistar Plus and HBO, which the companies present as a first of its kind in the Spanish market. The series will premiere simultaneously on Movistar Plus and HBO Max in Spain and in the main territories where HBO Max is available. Deadline reports that the deal runs from July 2026 through December 2027, and financial terms were not disclosed.
Why the alliance matters now
El Mundo reports that the announcement came after the operation that brought Paramount and Warner Bros. Discovery together under Skydance was completed. Deadline describes the deal as one of the first big international pacts confirmed by Skydance since it closed its merger with Warner Bros. Discovery. For Movistar Plus, the renewal secures continuity with the new Hollywood group while moving the relationship beyond distribution into production. Until now the collaboration centred on distributing content, and the joint label adds a role as production partner.
The first two titles
The first two titles are Veredicto and an untitled fiction project. Veredicto is a judicial thriller created by Eduard Sola, Pol Cortecans and Daniel González from an original idea by Carles Porta, produced in collaboration with Ikiru Films and Luminol Media. Its cast is led by Nagore Aranburu, Ernesto Alterio, Alba Flores, Omar Ayuso, Secun de la Rosa and Alfredo Castro, and The Hollywood Reporter adds Marc Soler, Júlia Mascort, Cris Blanco and Mamen Duch. The second project reunites Carles Porta with Los Moriarti, the filmmaking team behind Marco, Maspalomas and The Endless Trench, and stars Anna Castillo, Pol López and Eduard Fernández. The companies have not announced a final title for it, and the partners had not immediately shared further details on either series.
What stays in the line-up
The agreement keeps HBO Max inside Movistar Plus and includes new first-run films and catalogue titles from Warner Bros. Pictures. The renewed channel selection includes Warner TV, TCM, Discovery, Eurosport 1 and Eurosport 2, along with the Cartoon Network VOD service. The deal also includes non-exclusive rights to the PGA Tour. La Razón reports that HBO Max will also join the commercial offer of O2, and that Movistar Plus customers can watch its content either through the operator's integrated environment or through its native app.
Executive reactions
Alfonso Gómez Palacio, CEO of Movistar Plus, said the renewal would let the company keep offering customers a broad entertainment line-up:
This agreement strengthens our long-standing strategic partnership with Skydance and allows us to continue offering our customers one of the most comprehensive entertainment propositions in the market, combining the best user experience with some of the most recognized content and brands in the audiovisual industry.
Alessandro Araimo, Managing Director and Executive Vice President South Europe at Skydance, said in a statement that the expanded alliance would let the companies keep bringing viewers in Spain some of the most influential franchises, films and series in the industry. The companies also said the initiative would expand the national and international reach of stories developed in Spain.
