Memphis Grizzlies send Ja Morant to Portland Trail Blazers for Jerami Grant and Kris Murray
The Memphis Grizzlies have agreed to send two-time All-Star point guard Ja Morant to the Portland Trail Blazers in exchange for Jerami Grant and Kris Murray, pending league approval and physicals.
The trade
The Memphis Grizzlies have agreed to trade two-time NBA All-Star Ja Morant to the Portland Trail Blazers for forwards Jerami Grant and Kris Murray, multiple reports confirm. The deal is pending league approval and physicals. Morant, 26, was drafted second overall by Memphis in 2019 and leaves after seven seasons marked by electrifying play, injuries, and off-court incidents.
Morant's Grizzlies legacy
Morant averaged 22.4 points, 7.4 assists, 4.6 rebounds and one steal over 327 career games. But his final three years produced just 79 total appearances, including only 20 last season. A 25-game suspension in 2023 for a gun-related incident and a one-game ban this past season for clashing with head coach Tuomas Iisalo frayed his relationship with the organization.

Blazers' guard surplus
Portland adds Morant to a backcourt that already features Damian Lillard, Jrue Holiday and Scoot Henderson. Both Lillard and Holiday hold player options after next season. The move fuels speculation that the Blazers are positioning for another deal, possibly to acquire Boston's Jaylen Brown.
Grizzlies roster teardown
Memphis finished 25-57 last season and has shed the core of its 51-win 2022-23 team. Before the 2025 draft, the Grizzlies traded Desmond Bane to Orlando. At the February deadline, they sent Jaren Jackson Jr. to Utah. Now Morant's exit marks the end of an era and a full-scale rebuild.
