Discovery in Moncalieri

On the evening of Tuesday, 8 September 2026, emergency responders discovered the body of Rosella Bocchiardi inside an eleventh-floor apartment at corso Roma 24 bis in Moncalieri, a municipality bordering Turin. Firefighters from the Torino Lingotto detachment forced open the door shortly after 22:00 following emergency calls from neighbors. The next-door resident had noticed a strong odor coming from the adjacent flat for several days and became alarmed after not seeing Bocchiardi for days or weeks. Paramedics from the 118 Azienda Zero service entered the premises and confirmed that the woman was deceased. The corpse was found lying on the floor in an advanced state of decomposition, indicating that death had occurred several days prior to the intervention.

Forensic findings and confession note

Officers from the Moncalieri Carabinieri company, together with the provincial investigative unit and the scientific forensics team, conducted an extensive inspection of the scene. Initial medical examinations of the victim revealed severe cranial injuries resulting from a violent impact. Investigators located and seized a large iron pipe near the body, which is suspected to be the murder weapon used to deliver the blows to her head. Attached to a wardrobe with adhesive tape, investigators found a handwritten note left by the victim's brother. The written message contained a confession in which the brother admitted to killing Bocchiardi and stated his intention to take his own life.

Victim background and neighborhood accounts

Rosella Bocchiardi, identified as 79 years old by several agencies and 78 by local reports, was deaf-mute and lived alone in the building. She had resided in the 1970s residential block for at least thirty years, where only her surname appeared on the door intercom. Bocchiardi was a widow with no children, following the death of her husband, Domenico Pangallo, several years earlier. Neighbors gathered near the red-brick portico on the ground floor shortly before 23:00 as forensic technicians processed the residence. Residents recalled that the couple had previously walked a German Shepherd dog around the neighborhood, while in recent years Bocchiardi was seen infrequently, carrying shopping bags and maintaining minimal social contact outside visits from her brother.

Investigation and subsequent developments

Law enforcement personnel initially began searching the surrounding area for the brother following the discovery of the confession note. Later reporting by local daily La Stampa stated that the brother was subsequently found dead from an apparent hanging inside the same residential apartment, a development not initially released by investigators during the early hours of the search. The judicial authority ordered a formal autopsy to determine the precise timing of the homicide and the exact number of strikes inflicted. Forensic experts will also analyze the seized iron pipe for fingerprints and biological traces to conclude the formal investigation into the murder-suicide.
