Italian prosecutors review WhatsApp messages sent to mother before A1 viaduct killing
The Florence Prosecutor's Office has added text messages from Federico Vella to its file following the 3 September murder-suicide of Lorena Isceri on the Autostrada A1.
Broadcast of messages in murder investigation
Text messages sent by Federico Vella to his ex-partner's mother have entered the investigation file opened by the Florence Prosecutor's Office. The WhatsApp communications were broadcast on the Canale 5 programme Dentro la Notizia, hosted by Gianluigi Nuzzi. The records document the weeks leading up to the murder-suicide on 3 September 2026, when 36-year-old Vella killed 45- or 46-year-old Lorena Isceri on an Autostrada A1 viaduct at Barberino del Mugello before taking his own life. The messages reveal Vella's attempts to recruit Isceri's mother, Antonietta Argentiero, as a mediator after the relationship ended. Investigators have placed the correspondence into evidence to reconstruct the events preceding the killing.
Attempts to force mediation through family
The relationship between the pair fractured in mid-May 2026, when Isceri chose to end their cohabitation following an act of infidelity. In August 2026, Isceri returned to Salento in the Puglia region to handle the breakup independently and shield her family from alarm, despite relatives urging her to report Vella. Vella repeatedly contacted Argentiero throughout late August, demanding that she convince her daughter to reconsider and agree to relationship counseling. On 23 August 2026, Vella sent a direct plea to the mother asking for her intervention.
Nietta, please help me. I am trying everything, I am improving myself. I only asked for one hour of couples therapy a week. I will pay for everything. I am willing to do anything.

Turn to resentment and harassment
When Argentiero maintained that her adult daughter made her own choices and refused to intervene, Vella's tone shifted from appeals to open hostility. On 30 August 2026, Vella sent messages to Isceri claiming his love was stronger than ever and promising to correct his behavior. At the same time, he berated Argentiero for ignoring his calls and text messages, accusing her of working against him. Argentiero reiterated that she wanted only her daughter's peace of mind and urged him to speak directly with Isceri rather than pressuring the family. Vella rejected these explanations, sending hostile messages in which he expressed hatred toward Argentiero and questioned her motives.
Final communications on the A1 viaduct
The exchanges culminated in the early afternoon of 3 September 2026, while Vella was on the motorway viaduct with Isceri. After Argentiero sent a message stating that he had crossed all boundaries and asked him never to contact her again, Vella sent final text messages blaming her for the situation. Between 14:53 and 14:58 on 3 September 2026, Vella sent two short messages to Argentiero stating that the outcome was her fault and announcing that Isceri was dead. Family lawyer Mino Miccoli confirmed that the victim's relatives are enduring severe emotional distress following the incident.
These have been intense and emotionally heavy days. Right now she must manage such devastating grief without causing further harm to herself.
