Mejza's bouquet for prosecutor halts Sejm sitting over immunity request
MP Łukasz Mejza placed a bouquet on the presidium table during a debate on lifting his immunity, and Deputy Speaker Dorota Niedziela suspended the sitting for about half an hour. Prosecutors in Poznań seek to prosecute him over suspected irregularities in EU co-financed e-learning trainings run by his firm.
The immunity request
The Sejm was debating a committee report on a request from the Regional Prosecutor in Poznań, dated 21 July 2026, to allow criminal proceedings against MP Łukasz Mejza. The request covers three acts linked to e-learning trainings co-financed from European Union funds. The Sejm committee recommended on 16 September that the request be accepted. Prosecutors suspect that participants were given money to cover their required own contribution, which led them to choose trainings run by Mejza's firm, Future Wolves Łukasz Mejza. They also allege that Mejza certified untrue information on invoices, which in their view affected the grant.
Mejza's speech
On Wednesday evening, Mejza opened his address with a question to Deputy Speaker Dorota Niedziela about the most popular pizza in Sweden, which he said is kebab pizza. The question referred to a viral recording featuring Filip Chajzer, and Mejza said the fact had "the same value" as the prosecutors' request. He argued that the media had presented the trainings inaccurately for years, that all trainings had been carried out, and that he did not have to return the grants he received. He called the case an invention, saying:
The whole matter was simply invented on political order.
He then declared that he renounces his immunity and described the bouquet he had brought as a symbolic "thank you" for the prosecutor who asked for the waiver. The statement drew no immediate response in the chamber, and he moved on to the flowers.
Flowers on the presidium table
Mejza said he would hand the flowers to the deputy speaker, noting that she belongs to Platform and that the prosecutor "carries out Platform's orders". He then placed the bouquet on the presidium table despite her objection. Niedziela asked him to take the flowers away, saying "Mr. Mejza, please take these flowers", and warned that he was disrupting the sitting. Mejza refused and walked away from the rostrum, insisting:
Once flowers have been given, they are not taken away.
Niedziela then referred to his stand-up comedy and his remark about the pizza. She told him that he was able to offend people even with flowers.
You are able to offend someone even with flowers, and that is what you did.
Break and ethics referral
Niedziela asked Mejza several times to return and remove the bouquet, warning that the sitting would be interrupted and that "everyone will be waiting". She gave him two minutes to remove the flowers and then suspended the sitting, while he stayed in his room. She said she had to involve the Marshal's Guard. After a break of about half an hour, she said that Mejza's conduct had violated the dignity of the Sejm, and she called his behaviour "unworthy" and "inappropriate". A Marshal's Guard officer removed the bouquet from the presidium table, and she said the matter would be referred to the Sejm's ethics committee.
