Silesian mayors join Mateusz Morawiecki's Rozwój Plus association ahead of forum

Expansion into local government

Former prime minister Mateusz Morawiecki announced on Saturday, 12 September 2026, that Mysłowice Mayor Dariusz Wójtowicz joined the Rozwój Plus association. Wójtowicz has served as mayor of the Upper Silesian city since 2018 after spending two decades as a member of the Mysłowice City Council. Before taking the mayoral office, he held multiple roles across local administrative structures. His background includes past links to the Democratic Left Alliance (SLD) and later cooperation with non-partisan local government groupings, including Bezpartyjni Samorządowcy. In 2026, Wójtowicz was appointed to the Council of Local Government within the Office of the President of Poland.

Silesian mayors align with Rozwój Plus

The announcement followed the decision of Świętochłowice Mayor Daniel Beger to join Rozwój Plus on Friday, 11 September. Both Mysłowice and Świętochłowice are medium-sized municipalities located in the Silesian Voivodeship. Beger has served as mayor of Świętochłowice since 2018 without formal political party membership, though he participated in the Bezpartyjni Samorządowcy movement for several months. In a public release, the association described Beger as an administrator who understands the municipal challenges facing Silesian cities. Wójtowicz also previously commended Morawiecki for his past work supporting Mysłowice while serving as a member of parliament and prime minister.

I am joining the team of former prime minister Mateusz Morawiecki because he is a proven and reliable partner in building our city. He is the only prime minister who knows where Świętochłowice is and has visited several times. I know him for his effectiveness and fight for medium-sized cities.

National strategy and Sejm representation

The induction of Wójtowicz brought the total membership of the Rozwój Plus association to 48 people. In parliament, the Rozwój Plus Parliamentary Club holds 41 seats in the Sejm, functioning as the third-largest caucus behind Civic Coalition (KO) and Law and Justice (PiS). The association was originally established in spring 2026, after which its members formally exited the ranks of PiS during the summer. The recruitment drive specifically targets regional leaders. Many local executives are concluding their second terms in office, which represent their final allowable terms under revised regulations, creating an incentive to seek entry into national parliamentary politics.

Tomaszów Mazowiecki convention

Rozwój Plus scheduled an All-Poland Local Government Forum under the banner "Samorząd + Rozwój Plus" for 26 September 2026 in Tomaszów Mazowiecki. Several hundred local government officials from across Poland are expected to participate in the gathering. Beger and Wójtowicz are scheduled to address attendees at the conference, alongside Jastrzębie-Zdrój Mayor Michał Urgoł. In a video recording published by Morawiecki, Wójtowicz stated that his ongoing priorities remain municipal administration, local capital investments, and direct community services.
