Woman arrested four months after partner's death in Manresa; autopsy revealed possible poisoning
Police arrested a 41-year-old woman in Sant Salvador de Guardiola on Thursday, suspected of killing her 46-year-old partner with poison back in February. A court ordered pre-trial detention without bail.
Discovery and initial uncertainty
In February, the body of a 46-year-old man was found in Manresa, Barcelona province. There were no stab or gunshot wounds, nor other external signs of violent death, so investigators could not initially determine the cause. Catalan police, the Mossos d'Esquadra, opened a case but lacked clear evidence of a crime.
The autopsy shifts the inquiry
A subsequent autopsy opened the possibility of homicide, suggesting the man may have died from poisoning. The case was then assigned to the Mossos' Criminal Investigation Division (DIC).
A covert four-month investigation
The DIC worked under a secrecy order for several months, gathering evidence that would eventually point to the victim's partner. The investigation culminated last Thursday, June 25, when officers arrested the 41-year-old woman in Sant Salvador de Guardiola, a town in the Bages region near Manresa.
Detention and court decision
Following her arrest, the suspect was brought before the duty court. The Manresa court number 6 ordered her held in provisional detention without bail. No additional arrests have been made in connection with the case.
The DIC began investigating in February after the death of a man in Manresa.
An isolated case
Authorities have treated the incident as a domestic homicide. The investigation remains under judicial oversight, and further forensic details are expected as the case proceeds. No motive has been publicly disclosed.
