
Ex-boyfriend kills 19-year-old in Mszana Górna, dies by suicide after massive manhunt
A 19-year-old woman was murdered by her ex-boyfriend outside her home in Mszana Górna, southern Poland, on Monday evening. The suspect fled into nearby woods and was found dead with a sharp tool on Tuesday morning, an apparent suicide.
The fatal encounter
Magdalena Dz. returned from her shift at a restaurant in Mszana Dolna around 10 p.m. on 15 June. Her ex-boyfriend, 19-year-old Kacper W., was waiting outside her house. According to investigators, he attacked her with a sharp tool, striking her neck and chest multiple times. A relative discovered her body shortly afterward, and attempts at resuscitation failed.
The man and the woman were a couple, but they broke up some time ago.
Manhunt and discovery
The killer fled towards the dense forests above the village. A large-scale search operation was launched overnight, involving hundreds of police officers, mountain rescuers (GOPR), firefighters, sniffer dogs, drones, and a helicopter. Road checkpoints were set up and drivers were screened.

On Tuesday morning, a police helicopter crew spotted a male body on a wooded slope. A sharp tool was recovered next to the corpse, which officials suspect was the weapon used in the murder.
Today after several hours of searching the police helicopter crew spotted a man’s body over the area being searched.
Community in shock
The crime rattled the quiet village of Mszana Górna. A neighbour who heard the attack described the screams as "unbelievable". Friends of the victim revealed that Kacper W. had been stalking Magdalena and she feared him; he had previously slashed her car tyres. Her colleagues described her as quiet, polite, and well-liked. A family member said the attack happened the moment she stepped out of her vehicle.
Investigation and next steps
The District Prosecutor’s Office in Nowy Sącz has opened a homicide investigation and a separate inquiry into the suicide. The bodies have been secured for autopsy. Forensic experts from the provincial police laboratory in Kraków examined the crime scene through the night. Prosecutor Justyna Rataj-Mykietyn confirmed that the identity of the deceased male was verified by an ID card found on the body.
