Venezuela's Maiquetía airport will reopen with temporary terminals on 1 September
The Simón Bolívar International Airport in Maiquetía will resume domestic and international flights on 1 September 2026, operating through temporary terminals after being closed by earthquake damage.
The Simón Bolívar International Airport in Maiquetía announced that formal domestic and international flight operations will restart on 1 September 2026 through newly built temporary facilities. Airport authorities instructed passengers to contact their individual airlines directly to verify the rescheduling of flights to the temporary terminals.
Starting Tuesday, 1 September 2026, operations will formally begin in the designated temporary terminals, both for domestic and international flights.
The airport, located in the coastal state of La Guaira, serves the capital city of Caracas. It was previously shut down after suffering extensive damage caused by a double earthquake with magnitudes exceeding 7 that struck Venezuela in late June, leaving at least 6,509 dead. Venezuelan acting president Delcy Rodríguez had ordered the temporary closure of the airport following the structural destruction.
