Leon Madsen secured the 2026 Speedway Euro Championship title on 2 October in Pardubice, holding off six title contenders despite Maciej Janowski winning the Czech round.
Madsen secures the continental crown
Leon Madsen won the Speedway Euro Championship title on 2 October 2026 in Pardubice, Czech Republic. Although Polish rider Maciej Janowski won the round itself on the track, Madsen gathered enough points across the competition to claim the individual European championship. The event concluded a closely contested season that featured seven riders entering the final round within striking distance of the gold medal. The demanding surface in Pardubice tested riders across five heats, leaving no competitor undefeated through the opening two series of races.
Tight points battle ahead of the final
The championship battle arrived in Czechia with Madsen and Poland's Kacper Woryna tied at the top of the general classification with 34 points each. Janowski and Denmark's Michael Jepsen Jensen followed closely behind with 33 points, while Patryk Dudek entered the final round with 30 points. Jan Kvech held 29 points and Mikkel Michelsen had 28 points, creating a six-point gap between first and seventh place. The last time the series experienced a similar margin before the final round occurred in 2016, when Nicki Pedersen overcame a six-point deficit to claim the European championship.

The fourth series altered the leaderboard following an incident in Heat 16. Woryna encountered mechanical issues with his motorcycle in the same heat, managing only a single point. Janowski took two points from his fourth outing after starting from gate one and capitalizing on difficulties experienced by Dudek. After four series of heats, Kvech and Madsen shared the meeting lead with nine points each, while Przemysław Pawlicki remained on eight points.
Grand Prix qualification and SEC retention
The Pardubice final determined positions for international competition beyond the European medal podium. The individual European champion earned direct promotion to the 2027 Speedway Grand Prix series. Four competitors (Woryna, Madsen, Jepsen Jensen, and Dudek) had already secured their spots in the 2027 world championship prior to the meeting. That left Janowski, Kvech, and Michelsen competing directly for the guaranteed qualification place allocated to the series victor.
The final standings also decided the top-six positions that guarantee automatic spots in the Speedway Euro Championship for the following season. Two-time individual European champion Andrzej Lebiediew fell out of the automatic top-six cutoff during the meeting. His drop down the standings means he will rely on qualifying rounds or an official permanent wild card to compete in the next championship cycle.
