Madrid pledges 26.5 million euros for Sierra Oeste wildfire recovery

Community of Madrid President Isabel Díaz Ayuso will approve a package of measures valued at over 26.5 million euros to support the reconstruction of the Sierra Oeste area following a wildfire. The regional executive announced the plan ahead of the State of the Region debate, framing the recovery of the affected zone as a central priority for the start of the political term.

Following the containment of the blaze, the regional administration initially presented a 43-measure plan before adding further aid initiatives in subsequent weeks. Addressing residents affected by the fire, Ayuso committed regional resources to the recovery effort.

The incoming measures aim to repair public infrastructure, restore economic and tourism activity, and support local agriculture and winemaking. A dedicated working group will formulate management plans for agriculture, livestock, and forestry to increase fire resilience while maintaining traditional land uses. In El Escorial, the government will establish an educational forestry classroom at the IMIDRA nursery, where students will participate in cultivating native species for reforestation.

The regional administration will also approve a dedicated revitalization plan that allocates 12 million euros through the Regional Investment Program. These funds are designated for municipal infrastructure, maintenance machinery, and firefighting and prevention vehicles to enhance local emergency response capabilities.
