Nuamah double sets early lead

Olympique Lyonnais secured a 4-0 home victory over Stade Rennais at Groupama Stadium on Saturday evening in the fifth round of the Ligue 1 season. Winger Ernest Nuamah gave the hosts an early advantage in the 7th minute when he received a pass from captain Corentin Tolisso and placed a left-footed finish past Rennes goalkeeper Brice Samba. The four-goal victory lifted Lyon to 11 points from five matches, placing them two points behind league leaders Monaco on 13 points. Lyon moved into second place on goal difference ahead of Paris FC, who also reached 11 points after winning 2-1 against Strasbourg earlier in the evening. The defeat dropped Rennes down to fifth place in the standings following their initial positive start to the season. Lyon will conclude the fifth round on the podium heading into the international break, as fourth-placed Lille (10 points) can at most push them to third if they defeat Nice on Sunday.
