Demi Lovato confirmed for Camp Rock 3 cameo alongside returning Jonas Brothers

After months of fan speculation, Disney confirmed on Monday, August 10, that Demi Lovato will reprise her role as Mitchie Torres in Camp Rock 3. The singer, 33, was initially announced only as an executive producer when the film was revealed last year, with no on-screen role confirmed. Lovato shared a photo from the film on Instagram, writing "Y'all miss me? xoxo, Mitchie," and posted throwback pictures from the first two movies with the caption "mitchie 4 ever #thisisme." She will appear in a brief cameo, with director Veronica Rodriguez telling The Hollywood Reporter that the team wanted to find the right balance for Mitchie's involvement. Rodriguez said the character tells her mother in the film, "This isn't about me, it's about them. It's their time to shine. This is the new generation of campers."

Returning cast and new faces

The Jonas Brothers (Nick, Joe and Kevin) reprise their roles as Connect 3 members Shane, Nate and Jason Gray, and serve as executive producers alongside Lovato. Maria Canals-Barrera returns as Connie Torres, Mitchie's mother, who has been promoted from camp cook to camp director. The new cast is led by Liamani Segura as Sage, described as "bold and determined," and Malachi Barton as Fletch, the camp's "bad boy." Additional newcomers include Lumi Pollack as cellist Rosie, Sherry Cola as Lark, Hudson Stone as Desi (Sage's brother), Casey Trotter as Cliff, Brooklynn Pitts as choreographer Callie, and Ava Jean as influencer Madison.

Veronica Rodriguez directs from a screenplay by Eydie Faye, both previously associated with Pijamada de locos. Jamal Sims handles choreography, and Tim Federle, Betsy Sullenger, Spencer Berman and Gary Marsh join the Jonas Brothers and Lovato as executive producers.

Plot and franchise legacy

In Camp Rock 3, Connect 3 loses the opening act for their reunion tour and returns to Camp Rock to find a replacement among the camp's young talents. The competition sparks rivalries, alliances, secrets and romances among the campers. The original Camp Rock premiered on Disney Channel in 2008 and became the second most-watched Disney Channel original movie of all time at its debut; it now ranks third, behind High School Musical 2 and The Wizards of Waverly Place: The Movie. The 2010 sequel, Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam, was the channel's most successful film that year. The franchise has accumulated over 535 million viewing hours to date.

A safe space for new stars

At the film's Los Angeles premiere on Monday, Joe Jonas reflected on working with the new cast alongside Lovato, saying they were "both looking at these new campers kind of pinching ourselves like wow, this is a pretty wild full circle moment." He noted that the brothers prioritised creating a safe environment on set, recalling the pressure of their own rise to fame.

I don't envy anybody that's doing this now, there's probably a lot more scrutiny. Things happen a lot faster, and with that you also have an opportunity to kind of explain yourself quicker; when we were starting, we didn't have a lot of options, just kind of hope that the article isn't about you.

Lovato, who described returning to the franchise as "really healing for me," said she advised the new stars to protect their mental health and take breaks when needed. She had previously teased fans by surprising the crowd at the opening night of the Jonas Brothers' tour at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey in August 2025, performing "This Is Me" from the 2008 film and "Wouldn't Change a Thing" from the 2010 sequel. Speaking on Kylie Kelce's podcast, Lovato said of the third film:

We're opening the way for the new generation so they can shine as brightly as they deserve. And it's just really exciting to see a new generation stepping into our footsteps.

Camp Rock 3 premieres on Disney Channel on August 13 and streams on Disney+ from August 14. The soundtrack, also out August 13, includes a new Jonas Brothers song called "Come On Over."
