Liverpool trigger Victor Munoz's £34.6m release clause to sign Spain winger from Osasuna
Liverpool have triggered the €40million (£34.6m) release clause of Spain winger Victor Munoz, beating Newcastle United to the Osasuna forward. Medical staff are already in Atlanta to conduct his medical at the World Cup camp, making him first signing under new head coach Andoni Iraola.
The deal
Liverpool have triggered the €40million (£34.6m) release clause in Victor Munoz's Osasuna contract, pipping Newcastle United to the Spain international. The fee will be paid in two installments, and Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes together with FSG CEO of football Michael Edwards drove the move. Medical staff from the club are already in Atlanta, where Spain are based for the 2026 World Cup, to conduct the medical. Munoz is expected to sign a six-year contract and become the first acquisition under new head coach Andoni Iraola.
Player profile
Munoz is a 22-year-old left winger known for his pace, skill, and direct running. A detailed analysis from The Athletic placed him in the 98th percentile among wide players in Europe's top five leagues for take-ons per 100 touches, with close to a third of his carries classified as progressive. In his first full La Liga season with Osasuna, he made between 34 and 38 appearances, scoring six to eight goals and providing five assists, depending on the source. His style, hugging the touchline, driving at full-backs, and providing an outlet on the counter, fitted Osasuna's fast-attacking approach.
Career trajectory
Born in Catalonia, Munoz spent three years in Barcelona's La Masia academy before moving to CF Damm and then Real Madrid's youth setup at 18. He made four senior appearances for Madrid, including two at the 2025 Club World Cup, but joined Osasuna last July for €5m, with Madrid retaining a 50% sell-on clause. That clause means Madrid will receive €20m from the Liverpool deal. He earned his first Spain cap in March, scoring in a friendly against Serbia, and was named in Luis de la Fuente's World Cup squad.

Liverpool's attacking need
Liverpool entered the summer needing to refresh their attack: Mohamed Salah departed at the end of last season, Hugo Ekitike is out with an Achilles injury, and Federico Chiesa is expected to move on. Munoz's arrival brings speed and directness to Iraola's options, and his signing, completed during the World Cup, signals the club's intent to move quickly in the market.
