Dariusz Mioduski nears deal to sell minority stake in Legia Warszawa to US fund

Legia Warszawa owner and president Dariusz Mioduski is in advanced negotiations to sell a minority stake in the Polish football club to an American investment fund. Reporting by journalist Tomasz Wlodarczyk from Meczyki.pl indicated that discussions have been underway for several months and are approaching completion. The prospective US investor completed a comprehensive due diligence audit of the Warsaw club earlier in 2026, examining legal, financial, tax, operational, and technical records. Although formal details regarding valuation and equity share have not been officially confirmed, portal Legionisci.com reported that the transaction could involve up to 40% of the club for an estimated €50 million.

Ownership history and capital investment

Mioduski has served as the sole owner and president of Legia since 22 March 2017, when he bought out co-owners Boguslaw Lesnodorski and Maciej Wandzel. The 62-year-old businessman, who previously directed Kulczyk Investments, first joined the club in July 2012 as a member of the supervisory board. In January 2014, Mioduski partnered with Lesnodorski to acquire 100% of Legia from the ITI Group, initially securing an 80% stake. Speaking on the Biznes Klasa programme in late 2024, Mioduski stated that he had contributed more than 100 million PLN of his own funds into the organization since his arrival, while dismissing past offers from outside buyers.

“I get such offers all the time. Not only people but institutions are circling around, but I am not interested in that.”

Mioduski explained that he would only consider selling shares to a trusted partner committed to a long-term institutional vision. He noted that clashing personalities and egos create greater friction in football governance than in traditional corporate sectors.

Financial challenges and sporting setbacks

The search for outside capital follows several difficult seasons for the capital club. Legia has not won the Ekstraklasa title since the 2020/2021 season, ending a dominant run that yielded seven championships and six domestic cups between 2013 and 2025. In recent campaigns, the team endured frequent coaching dismissals and fought through periods of poor domestic form, including battles near the relegation zone. Legia finished in sixth place in the league last season, failing to qualify for European cup competitions and forfeiting continental revenue. Consequently, the club offloaded players before the current campaign and relied primarily on loan agreements and free agent transfers. Dissatisfaction among fans has grown, resulting in critical banners displayed at matches, including a fixture against Motor Lublin late last season.

Domestic form and league position

Under head coach Marek Papszun, Legia has started the domestic season unbeaten through eight rounds, recording four victories and four draws for 16 points. That tally places the Warsaw side second in the Ekstraklasa standings, trailing five points behind league leaders Gornik Zabrze. Sources differ slightly on position due to tiebreakers, with some tables placing Legia in third.
