Legia Warsaw draws 1-1 with Śląsk Wrocław as Rafał Adamski scores late equalizer
Rafał Adamski scored a 94th-minute header to salvage a 1-1 draw for Ekstraklasa leaders Legia Warsaw against Śląsk Wrocław on Friday, following Artur Jędrzejczyk's farewell appearance.
Tribute to Artur Jędrzejczyk
Artur Jędrzejczyk brought an end to his tenure at Legia Warsaw on Friday evening during a sixth-round Ekstraklasa fixture against Śląsk Wrocław. The 38-year-old defender, who has won six Polish league titles with the Warsaw side, started the match wearing the captain's armband to mark his 420th appearance in the club's colours. In Legia's history, only Lucjan Brychczy has made more competitive appearances. The farewell was arranged in advance, with Jędrzejczyk kicking the ball out of bounds immediately after the opening whistle. Players from both teams formed a guard of honour as he walked off the pitch to a special display from the home supporters, making way for substitute Bartosz Kapustka in the first minute of play.
Penalty breaks the first-half deadlock
Legia maintained possession across the opening thirty minutes under coach Marek Papszun, but struggled to penetrate Śląsk's defensive lines. The visiting side absorbed the slow tempo and found opportunities on counter-attacks. Śląsk broke the deadlock in the 35th minute after Rafał Augustyniak committed a sliding foul on midfielder Eniss Shabani inside the penalty area. Video assistant referee Tomasz Musiał recommended an on-field review, but referee Marcin Szczerbowicz confirmed the penalty call after consulting the pitchside monitor. Piotr Samiec-Talar converted the spot kick into the right corner past Romanian goalkeeper Otto Hindrich, scoring his third goal of the season. Śląsk nearly doubled the lead minutes later when Kamil Piątkowski blocked a shot from Luka Marjanac after a corner kick, while Legia's lone response before the break was an off-target Piątkowski attempt from a Kapustka free kick.
Second-half pressure and stoppage-time equalizer
Legia adjusted their lineup at the interval, replacing Michal Sevcik with Wojciech Urbański after an attack featuring Jan Kuchta and Łukasz Zjawiński failed to produce clear shots. While Legia pushed forward with passes from Kapustka, Śląsk generated the clearest scoring opportunities of the second half on quick breaks. Goalkeeper Hindrich kept Legia within reach by stopping a close-range attempt from Przemysław Banaszak in the 73rd minute and turning away a one-on-one strike from Marjanac in the 75th minute. Legia found the equalizer in the fourth minute of stoppage time when Paweł Wszołek delivered a cross from the wing. Substitute Rafał Adamski scored with a header in the 94th minute, securing a 1-1 draw to prevent Legia's first defeat of the season and leaving Śląsk with their third draw of the campaign.
