Lech Poznań 3:0 Piast Gliwice: three substitutes score all goals in Ekstraklasa win

First half: Piast threaten but fail to convert

Lech Poznań hosted Piast Gliwice on Sunday, 9 August 2026, in the 3rd round of the PKO BP Ekstraklasa, winning 3:0 after a goalless first half. Piast, described across sources as unpredictable under coach Daniel Myśliwiec, began boldly and created the clearer chances. Jakub Lewicki shot just over the bar in the 2nd minute, and Hugo Vallejo missed narrowly wide in the 9th. Lech's best opportunity came in the 32nd minute, when Patrik Walemark broke through after a Vallejo error but was denied one-on-one by Piast goalkeeper Domen Gril. Piast's Samuel Ntamack then squandered an even better chance in the 43rd minute, losing his duel with Lech keeper Mateusz Lis when clean through on goal.

Piast finished the first half with greater possession and as many shots as the hosts, yet went in level at 0:0. Quentin Boisgard twice missed the target, and Ivan Lima tested Lis without success. Antoni Kozubal headed dangerously from a corner, but Gril reacted well to save. Lech's central defenders Skrzypczak and Mońka were repeatedly beaten, and the home side offered little going forward.

Frederiksen's substitutions turn the match

Lech coach Niels Frederiksen had made four changes to the starting eleven from Thursday's 1:0 Europa League qualifying win over KI Klaksvik, leaving Mikael Ishak, Pablo Rodriguez, and Allahyar Sayyadmanesh on the bench. After the break, Piast dropped deeper rather than pressing for an opener. Frederiksen introduced Ishak and Sayyadmanesh in the 61st minute, and Rodriguez had already replaced Kozubal at halftime.

Frederiksen had said before the match that the squad was fully available.

Less than two minutes after entering, Ishak scored. Daniel Hakans broke free down the left flank, leaving Emmanuel Twumasi behind, and delivered the ball to the Swedish captain, who slotted in from close range. A minute later, 18-year-old Karol Delikat, also a substitute, made his Ekstraklasa debut by beating his defender and finishing at the near post.

Sayyadmanesh seals it in stoppage time

Piast offered little in response after falling behind. Rodriguez won a footrace against a Piast defender and fed Sayyadmanesh, who struck powerfully into the top corner in the 90th minute to complete the 3:0 scoreline. All three goals came from substitutes brought on by Frederiksen, who was praised across sources for his changes.

Context: Drapiński departure and Lech's European schedule

Piast entered the match having sold Igor Drapiński to Turkish side Samsunspor on Friday for a reported 2.5 million euro, a club-record transfer. The 22-year-old, who had worn the captain's armband in Piast's first two league matches, signed a contract running to 30 June 2031. Piast had lost 0:2 to Zagłębie Lubin and beaten Wisła Kraków 4:3 in their opening fixtures. Lech, meanwhile, drew 0:0 with Cracovia and won 2:1 at Wieczysta Kraków before edging KI Klaksvik 1:0 on Thursday. The Poznań club had earlier won the Polish Super Cup and a Champions League qualifying match, but were eliminated by Aarhus and dropped into the Europa League path.

Jakub Czerwiński started for Piast, his first appearance in the starting eleven since 20 March and his first league action since 20 April. Former Raków Częstochowa player Gustav Berggren (2022-2025), who will join Lech, watched from the stands.
