Man arrested in Lavrio after sledgehammer break-in and double stabbing
A 32-year-old man surrendered to Greek police after breaking into a Lavrio home with a sledgehammer and stabbing his former partner and her companion.
Sledgehammer break-in and knife attack
At approximately 00:10 on 2 October 2026, a 32-year-old Romanian man broke into a two-storey residence located behind the Lavrio Technological Cultural Park in south-eastern Attica. The suspect used a heavy sledgehammer to smash through the glass window on the ground floor to gain forced entry into the building. Once inside the maisonette, he confronted his 32-year-old former partner and her 33-year-old current partner, who were both in the living room area. The intruder attacked the couple with a knife, inflicting multiple stab wounds on both victims while they attempted to defend themselves. During the violent encounter, the woman's two young sons, aged 2.5 years and 1.5 years, were asleep on the first floor directly above the living room. Both boys are the shared biological children of the 32-year-old woman and the 32-year-old suspect. A 51-year-old woman, identified as a relative of the female victim, was present inside the home and witnessed the break-in and knife attack unfold.
Emergency medical response and hospital transfers
The knife attack resulted in severe physical trauma for both individuals seated on the ground floor. The 32-year-old woman sustained deep cuts and stab wounds across her back and on both hands from the blade. Her 33-year-old male partner suffered extensive injuries across multiple parts of his body, including strikes to his ribs, collarbone, and genital area. Emergency medical personnel dispatched to the scene provided immediate first aid before transporting both victims to the local Lavrio Health Centre for initial clinical assessment. Due to the critical nature of their wounds, physicians ordered an urgent transfer to the Asklepieio General Hospital in Voula. Both patients were admitted for immediate surgical intervention upon arrival at the Voula facility. Hospital staff also arranged for the subsequent transfer of the 32-year-old woman to the Evangelismos Hospital in central Athens for continued specialized care following surgery.
History of domestic violence filings
Police records indicate that the late-night assault followed an escalating pattern of domestic violence incidents involving the 32-year-old suspect. Authorities had registered three separate legal complaints and lawsuits against the man during the late summer of 2026. The initial complaint was filed with law enforcement on 13 August. Exactly two weeks later, on 27 August, a second formal complaint was lodged against the same individual. A third domestic violence lawsuit was submitted to Greek police on 3 September, less than one month before the October break-in. The recorded timeline shows repeated legal actions taken by the victims prior to the violent confrontation at the residence behind the technology park.
- First domestic violence complaint filed against the 32-year-old suspect
- Second domestic violence complaint lodged against the suspect
- Third domestic violence lawsuit submitted to authorities
- Suspect breaks into the Lavrio home with a sledgehammer, stabs the couple, and surrenders to police
Police surrender and criminal investigation
Directly after carrying out the double stabbing at the maisonette, the 32-year-old suspect left the scene and travelled to the Lavreotiki Police Station. The man turned himself in at the station desk, where police officers immediately took him into custody and placed him under arrest. The preliminary criminal investigation was formally assigned to the Crime Prosecution and Investigation Department of Lavreotiki. Investigators secured the maisonette to document forensic evidence, collect the sledgehammer used to break the ground-floor glass, and recover the sharp weapon employed during the attack. Officers also conducted a formal interview with the 51-year-old relative who witnessed the events in the living room, taking her comprehensive deposition to establish the chronological sequence of the forced entry and knife assault.
